For a while I was trying to think of the best way to mount the ignition switch on my 750 after taking the stock airbox off, but was never happy with my options. I wanted it up front and center and to more or less match the shape of the speedo and tach. What I decided to do was use the hole left by the fork lock that I never had or intended to use. I purchased a 1/2" chrome nut and bolt to mount my switch, but it's not large enough to fit in the hole without a lot of slop that might eventually fatigue the metal or cause the whole thing to shift around, so I made a bushing that solves this problem.

Then I made a housing for the switch using 2" aluminum bar stock and checked the fit.

I took a sheet of aluminum and shaped an ear that I ground to size and TIG welded to the housing.

My neighbor has a CNC machine in his garage, which would have been awesome, but I didn't want to bother him with that. I'm still happy with the location and the way it looks. Just a thought for those of you that are looking for another option besides under the seat.

You guys with actual mechanical skills piss me off....!

But seriously, very nice work.

Interesting. I was thinking of doing a fork lock there but maybe it would be good for the switch. The only worry would be flexing of the wires.

Agreed. I used insulated terminals and heat shrinked them to relieve the stress on the connections. I used electrical tape to wrap the terminals to the switch body all the way down to the wires and around a plastic wire conduit. Hopefully it ought to keep the whole thing together.

All the wires in the hand controls survive a bit of flex for years so you should be fine.

If you wanted to keep the steering lock you could make a nice bracket that goes under the handle bar clamps, I think I have seen a photo of someone on this forum with an oil pressure gauge mounted there.

Nice job Dude. May do the same thing myself. Thanks for the idea.
