I had an idea for this website which may help some of us while working on my bike the other day.
It was a Sunday and I live in the middle of the desert anyhow so couldn't pop down to my local british parts shop as it is 1600km away and only open 3.5 days a week anyhow.I needed to make a gasket to re assemble the bike or wait a week for it to arrive in the post and probably be bent and damaged. So as I marked out and made a template of the gearbox front cover in paper, cut it out then transfered it to the gasket paper I thought how helpful it would be If I could just print out a scanned to scale template, would have saved me 45 minutes work and probably a better fit.

So what If we scanned in gaskets which can be made out of commonly available gasket sheet so when needed they can be printed out @ the correct size and easily transfered to make the real thing?

If we did this I think it would be best scanned in front of 10mm graph paper so the sizing could be checked when printed to make sure the images havnt been zoomed or reduced as you could just measure the squares to find out the easy way

That is probably a great idea for some of the gaskets.
For a gearbox cover gasket I just use some spray contact cement and glue a piece of gasket stock to the cover, then I use an Exacto knife and trim the center and bolt holes out using the inside edge of the cover for a guide. Then I cut the outside with a pair of scissors. Then you have a better gasket than what is supplied with the kits already glued to one side and ready for a light smear of grease to keep the other side from sticking so it can be reused alongside the road when the little return spring breaks. I would think if you changed the "We" to "I" you would have allot of members praising your work for years to come ! Well, at least until the poste drifted to the bottom of the page and was covered by layer after layer of other pages! I love this forum and my only criticism is I generally find it difficult to search for information. Either my search criteria is too general and I have forty pages to sift through or my search leaves me empty handed. I also use a Volvo forum that has overcome this problem by putting the routine repair info into a Stickey form. I can see the benefit of Stickeys for this site but it would also eliminate some of the discussions that make this forum so great. Nothing is easy is it!

Pack rats get into my draws in shed and have a taste for paper gaskets and packages are good sport to them to chew through > so I'm no newbie on Nortons sans gaskets and quizzed the Norton world about this to be assured there is No Need of Any Gasket Anywhere on a Norton but for the TS cover gasket to set the oil pump nipple crush on nip up. Your call on how prime and proper to get stuck following tradition mindlessly. Truth is sans gasket is better cost wise, hassle wise and stable sealing wise. Hylomar head to banjo's for me.

As revealed its risky to convert digital image to actual gasket. Traditional way is light tap on material laid on part or lightly grease the part and press material on it for strain to trim around. Ball peen or dome nut works a treat to get bolt holes right.

I generally hold at least one of each gasket as a spare and if I'm placing an order will add the ones I may have recently used. This has bailed out a few members that have been local to me as they know I hold most gaskets. Even here in the UK I might only be 35 miles from my nearest spares dealer, but they only open certain mornings and all day Saturday, mail order is fine but it can still sometimes take two or three days to get them in the post. In the past I have made my like others have and achieved good results.

Good test of your idea is if you get enough interest that L.A.B. puts you on the tech page. Then your immortal.

Tech Page??? Am I missing something?

That is a great idea, if I had some gaskets, I would scan them and put them up somewhere.

The tech page is the locked, first post at the top of the forum. But, you could also make it to the "links" section (no, not golf).

I have been hoping that some of the hotshots on the forum would VIDEO some of their work, like assembling the back wheel, cleaning/replacing the clutch, etc.

Oh, that tech page!
Thanks Herman
