How do they put the indent on these cable caps to keep them in place. The throttle cable I'm replacing has them so is it done at the factory or how do you do it ?

Typically these would be soldered to the cable using standard methods. Though its possible some are now crimped...no id9ea correct shape/size of crimp needed.
EDIT: Oh. perhaps thesevare end ferrules, not cable nipples? Those are i believe slipped on the plastic cable casing by force fit, sometimes with some heat on the plastic.
Ive seen yourube videos by Lunmad showing how he removes/refits these by this method.
Not sure any crimping needed but even just a slight denting with crimp pliers should work ok.

I would use Epoxy, Clean the surfaces and be sure to keep the trim caps tight to the end of the cable while it sets. Epoxy glue would fill any gaps if they were slightly loose or oversized. Seems like a good idea to me.

I use a pointed punch like you would use to mark metal before drilling. Only takes a light tap on both sides to lock them in place. Of course, they should be a snug fit over the covering to start with.

When I was making the throttle cable assembly on my MGA project, I fabricated a ferrule crimping tool. The tool was easy to make. I used a piece of 1 inch x 1/2 inch steel that I had lying around, cut out two blocks then clamped the blocks in a drill press vise. I then drilled a hole in the center where the two edges meet. I used a #4 drill and it seemed to work fine.

When you use the tool, just fit the crimping tool pieces around the ferrule and squeeze together in a vise. Here's a picture of my tool and the result. The tool is crude, but it did the job. The outside slots are for a different sized ferrule.

How they do that ?
