So just wondering how much all you guys are riding your commandos every year? When I was in my 20s I had newer bikes for my street bikes and I would ride them anywhere and everywhere. As I have gotten older all my newer toys went away but I still have my old early 70s Japanese bikes which have taken over the street bike duties. I have them dialed in like Flynn and have no issue putting the milage on them like I would a new bike. So Now that I finally have my dream bike of a Norton just wondering how you guys are using them, and what should I expect?

When I had my MkIII Interstate, it was my most-used bike, and I did my longest single day on it- 620 miles. I'd venture a guess that I might've done 5,000 miles on it in it's best year.

The deal is, when I got my FIRST Norton (the MkIII), I already had a collection of various brands (mostly British), and have always had 15-20+ bikes since then, so no single bike gets a lot of miles. Probably the second-most-used bike is my '00 Triumph Legend 900 triple, a really great all-around bike.

The mileage doesn’t really matter. As long as it started in good condition and you do the necessary continuous maintenance Commandos are very reliable. Although it will accelerate in top from very low speed that is not recommended and the transmission will thank you for using the gears. Just because it is old that doesn’t mean you can’t use full throttle and red line it through the gears every time you use it.

Ya I totally get the multiple bike thing. I currently have 7 bikes but two of them are race only bikes. My favorite street bike right now is my 74 cb750. Outside of poor brakes it's just like riding a newer bike (actually went for a good ride on her just today) looking forward to putting some miles on the Norton but from the few rides I have done I have noticed in comparison it's not as smooth and the brakes are even worse then the CB. That being said I have owned many many many bikes of all kinds and the character of the Norton is unmatched. The smile on my face while I am riding it around is something the other bikes can't match.

From day one buying my 850 Norton new at 17 years old it was my only transportation so it was a everyday rider, for going to work to going out every night to meet up with the mates to every weekend out on it, even when raining, so average 10K + miles a year, then 1980 I did the conversion to the Featherbed frame motor built for the Featherbed, took 2 years to build, after the build it was back to everyday use, I had a car but the Norton was what I used.
If you do the maintenance when due the Commando motors are very reliable, I ride my Norton hard but don't over rev it even with the 2S cam no need to rev it flat out as my cam works better between 4K and 7k RPMs, my crank is also balanced, my Norton has well over 160K+ miles and was semi retired back in 2013 when I brought my new Thruxton, it still gets ridden regularly but being retired now its not clocking up the miles it used too, this year has been the longest it has sat in the shed unridden since my accident and lost my lower right leg, but it is now my only road going bike so be back to riding duties soon.
My motor is not stock built for the Featherbed frame but still running my original valves, the head has been shaved and the ports opened and 40 oversized Heliolite piston on very tight final hone to piston/cylinders clearance, am running higher compression.
It has proven to me and my mates how reliable 850 Norton's can be, I also mix STP in my oil since 1982 and has help with my motor long life, the rebore was done in 1982 and still running the same pistons, I boil that down to using STP in my oil, snake oil, I don't think so, I also run a Lochead oil cooler all year round since 1978 for our hot summers.
So don't labour your motor, don't pussie foot it and do regular oil changes/maintenance and pat the tank and thank it after every ride and you will get long life out of it.

Well that was the best response I could imagine. You sir are an animal.
No not really I have always loved Nortons and Featherbed frame from riding my first one when 17 and 2 weeks later buying my new 74 850 Commando, British bikes are in my blood and could never be without my Norton just clocked up 50 years ownership, had a few drinks with a few mates who grew up with me and my old Norton, been a good life together, and the non believers said why buy a unreliable British bike that leaks oil everywhere, will I proved them all wrong and don't I let them know, they got rid of their Honda 4s a long time ago, they brought new Honda 4s and I brought my new Norton and mine is still going, they still try to put sh it on me but all I say is "where are your Honda 4s now" shuts them right up 😂 :).
Pics of it 50 years with me and my old mates.
