Hi kids. I keep letting my 68 BSA 441 Shooting Star sit longer & longer between rides, this time due to a knee injury. I live in Southern California (USA) so it's a very mild climate but what I want to know is how long is to long to let it sit before I should squirt some oil in the spark plug holes & or on the valve train before kicking it over again???

I've let my 441 sit for a couple of months, AS LONG AS YOU DRAIN THE GAS TANK & CARB.

Over a year you need to at least change the oil (oil tank, crankcase, primary & tranny)

how long is the bike in dry dock 4? if extended time i'd put fresh oil in it and as paul said drain the gas tank/carb

a shot of marvel mystery oil down the spark plug holes and kicking it over once every couple of month will do - sure you could do it way less frequently than that - but finding it frozen up (however doubtful in CA) is a real bummer.

It's never frozen up but I think maybe the compression release valve may have stuck once. About a year ago after it sat a bit it didn't seem to build compression when I kicked it at first, it started & ran good & then had good compression when kicked. Does this sound like anything I should be looking into or just normal for a bike that sat a bit??? Thanks.
