I am looking for, with out much success, some of the original type, spring steel hose clamps for the oiling system. I am not a big fan of the screw type hose clamps that abrade and eat into the hose, becoming another potential leak/weep source. I would prefer stainless, but I can't fnd any. I belive a I need a diameter from .5 to .65 inches.

Thanks in advance for any help.

My originals were ferrules that had to be crimped. Don't know about the 71. I think OB has the ferrules.

Steve, most German cars use a very nice clamp. A lot of them are stainless, they are a screw type clamp, but they do not have the open slits that allow the rubber to squeeze thru. They also have rolled edges so the sides of clamp wont cut the hose. And most have a continuous band, no flat spot under the screw assembly. You can also find this type of clamp on a lot of newer cars, on the HP fuel injection hoses. We have a VW specialty shop that carries them. Or a trip to a wreaking yard could get you a handful for next to nothing. The subarus from the mid 90s have the fuel filter on the drivers side right at the strut tower on top, their are about 6 of this type clamp in this area. The Subarus are not my favorite, they use a phillips head which tends to strip.

Found these on Ebay this morning. I think I will order them as soon as I double check the diameter tonight with calipers. Think they will do a great job and look pretty nice while at it, not to mention they will be coming from England!

Motion Pro has an assortment of stepless ear clamps and also the crimp on style, don't know if they are SS.

They look OK and they work well on automatic washing machines too. Surely you can get them near home?

I use something like those wire clips on my fuel lines. Would be a little nervous using them on a non-barbed smooth pipe for the oil lines though. When I was looking a couple years ago I found some suitable screw turn hose clamps that were made for high pressure fuel lines that were much like the stock hose clamps - grooves not cut through.

These are pretty durned close to that came on mine when new in 1973 with the exception that those were single wire, not double. One of the reasons I chose these were because they are wo similar to those on washing machines........ They both shake, rattle and roll when unbalanced!
