High RPM miss 6000 to 7000

My 750 developed a miss at 6000, I was going to check all my electrical connections etc, but I found something else, this only happened on the last ride. But about a year ago I fitted new bowl drains with the correct washer, but they were impossible to keep tight, actually one fell out on a ride and I had to jam a stick in there to limp home. Then I drilled a small hole on the edge and just wired them together so I wouldn't lose another one, anyway one came loose and was dripping, I didn't notice it as I had straddled the bike turned fuel on and tickled it, so it's been retightened and wired better to resist undoing, it must have been either low on fuel or airating it, only one change and problem is gone, revs clean to 7000.

Your countryman, Owen Greenfield ?? used to make these bowl drain plug replacement pieces that attach to the lower jet holder (after you thread them on the lathe) the parts don't loosen up any and have a drain screw and rubber O ring on the bottom as a drain for the bowl... They also hold the bowl securely against the body of the carburetor from the center of the bowl, not by the ears on the side of the bowl, which always eventually bend and allow the bowl to leak... I carry an extra in my jacket in case it rattles off, but so far no problems in a few years of using them...


I'm not sure he makes them anymore. He disappeared from here some years ago, never to be seen again, but I liked this piece of hardware that he was making... The holes in the brass tube allow the fuel to reach the jet and let the carb function normally

Had the same thing happen during the Virginia Rally way up in the mountains. Dropped the bowl drain plug and washer due to those hard red "improved" Amal washers. Fortunately it got stuck on the oil feed lines, even though I had an extra in my tool bag I was happy to find the plug and washer. Immediately after getting home I ordered some of these up. They sealed perfectly and seem to be doing fine.

I've been looking for those. I will try that company for the red gaskets. I sure will have to spend some more time at their website. (Dangerous)
I also need some for a Briggs & Stratton Model A glass fuel bowl and it looks like one of their larger sized gaskets would work. The one I made for it shrunk and pulled away from the sealing surface. Have to dig out that motor and give it some exercise.
The price is right too.
