Hi all,

I’ve just joined the forum because I’m looking at a lovely unregistered 961 Commando SP, which I’m very tempted by.
What’s potentially putting me off is the apparent lack of spare parts support now TVS have moved onto the new models.
Obviously the new bike comes with the two year warranty, but support in the event of failure seems to be patchy and with long waits.

What are the forum’s thoughts about paying current top price for these right now (seems to be £13499-£13999) given the above? Perhaps dealers are open to offers?

Cheers
Dave

Dealers might be open to offers. I imagine service parts will be around pretty much forever, some parts probably not. Here’s a current example. My 961SP was registered July 2024 and had done about 3,000 miles. The rear mudguard (hugger) broke and was replaced under warranty. The new hugger lasted less than a season and also broke, so I put in a claim for a new one months ago. The hugger has arrived at the dealer, but Norton say it also needs a special 3M tape to be fitted with it and they don’t supply it anymore. They don’t supply it because 3M have discontinued it. But, instead of providing an alternative, they just dumped the problem on the dealer. To be more precise, they told the dealer that the customer should get the tape themselves, knowing full well that it isn’t available. The dealer offered to get me the tape, before either of us knew it was discontinued. So, I still don’t have the replacement hugger yet.
If you get one with a carbon fibre hugger, it probably won’t break, but the plastic huggers are well known for it.

Hi Dave and welcome. Presumably you mean a brand new bike? To be honest the engines, although mechanicaly noisy seem to be bulletproof. Norton must be obliged to provide spares for a period, but it’s unclear what that period is. Many of the peripherals are common to other bikes, and obliviously spares for Öhlins and Brembo parts can be sourced elsewhere.
Member @Stu Bodycote is an ex Norton employee and now specializes in 961’s. He knows them inside out, and has a company called Motorvated, which I and all his customers recommend.
I’m sure you could negotiate a deal with a dealer, but there are also a couple of owners on the Facebook group looking to transfer their bikes which are on personal finance agreements, so it may be worth looking there beforehand.

Thanks all, this is all very useful information. I’ve looked the Facebook group you mentioned and, as you say, there are a few looking to offload PCB deals, but that’s not something I’d be looking to take on.
I’ll be going to chat with a dealer at some point over the next couple of weeks, so we’ll see what happens.
