Head Tube Plate

Working on the frame of my '71.

What should I do for this:



A P.O. painted the frame...and didn't mask of the vin tag.

Is this a big deal? Can I get *just the black off? Or do I need to replace it?

New plates and rivets are available, and easy enough to install. A punch set from HF will do the numbers.

Is it worth the hassle?

You could try using paint stripper to remove the old paint or gasket remover(the stuff I get comes in a spraycan). Are you going to repaint the frame? If you just want the tag cleared then mask it off and give that a try. I just would buy a new tag like bwolfie recommended, as they are readily available along with the rivets. It just depends on how deep of a restoration you plan on doing.
