Has anyone had a Dave Taylor head steady spring break?

Pulled my tank for another reason and my Dave Taylor head steady spring was broken just back of the hook on one side. Just wondered if anyone has had this happen and what they might have done to prevent it in the future. Thanks, Jim

I had one break, but it seemed that things weren't aligned well at the time and one side was under more tension than the other, to do with a dog that i had collided with. In my case the side which broke was the side which was under more tension due to the misalignment.
I could imagine if the tension was such that there was some sort of resonant vibration in the spring then fatigue could become a problem.
