Happy Father’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day gentlemen! My bike took its second out-of-town ride this morning for our weekly breakfast ride with my dad and brother.

We’ve been riding every Sunday morning for over six years!

What traditions do you have with your dad?

Here’s some dad advice to any newcomers: Only use Loctite on the items you want to keep!

Happy Fathers Day to everyone as well ! What an important role we play, as importantly as
a Mother. I.m.h.o. it sure seems a lot of societal dysfunction these days can be traced to the lack of one.
I was fortunate to have had both, the traditional upbringing of 2 parents in the home. I feel for those that didn't but still have lived a decent life with the lack of that. I can't imagine how things may have went for me.
Good for You to still have Your Father and is able to ride. I lost mine in 2014, a WW2 USN Veteran radioman. (another one of my main hobbies, all things radio) He always had bikes, we did ride together a few times, we bought the Commando that is my avatar and daily rider together back in '77. I miss and
think of him daily. I am a father to a great Son who lives in Kansas City, he will become a first time
father in November. I lost my would have turned 30 year old daughter last August, but I will always be the Father to that Soul and will see Her again. Concluding, my initials spell D.A.D...
I hope all get the chance to do something for themselves today. If the weather is decent where You are,
as it is here today, my suggestion is, at least for me : a RIDE !

I lost my dad 4 years ago. He was a WWII Navy vet. By is own admission he said "I was a terrible soldier." He sailed with a taskforce out of Pearl in 1945. He said his ship and a destroyer headed for a rock with a landing strip called Kwajalein. The rest of the ships went to a place they had never heard of called Iwo Jima. He fixed boats and cut gears on this island backwater. He was a machinist by trade and mechanical engineer by profession. My dad was a car guy who never fully understood my fascination with all things two wheeled. He was a true gentle man. He was an only child with many childless aunts and uncles. He was a good son, not only to his parents but to Aunt Nellie, Uncle Bob and Uncle George. He took care of all of them in their old age just as a son would have done. I used to go with him to the nursing home to see my great aunt. On the way in he would stop, stoop down and talk with people in wheel chairs. He would pat shoulders, shake hands, give smiles and kiss cheeks. I asked him "why?" He said "Son, the days here are long and empty. It is the least I can do to let them know that someone remembers and cares." My dad was my hero in so many ways. He was just such a good guy. He was 90. I know he had to go. In his days in the nursing home I used to throw my arms around him and he would say "what was that for?" I would just say "Oh, nothing. I am just glad you are here" but I knew I had to save it up for the time I couldn't do that ever again.

Sounds as though not only a special fantastic Father, but all around
good guy from that "Greatest of generations". Thank You for sharing that.

Ride

My Son just left after dropping off a beautiful artist rendered Ducati T-shirt a gift from my daughter and himself , he been a Dad now for 9 yrs ! …. My own Dad passed back in ‘94 , bout age I am now , miss him terribly, he was much better man than myself , I continue to strive … happy Dad’s day to all fathers out there !

Happy Father’s Day to all . Lost my Dad 17 yrs ago - he was 91.
Like others have said, I was fortunate to be raised in a stable traditional home . Like his father before him , my dad was a master wooden boat builder and loftsman. His love of boats stayed with him all his life - even in the grips of dementia he knew about his boats . When I was a boy he designed , built and drove racing powerboats. He was National champion in Jersey Speed Skiffs and his 280 cu. in. Class hydroplane came within 3/10 of a mph for the class record - 102 .7 mph
He and my grandfather both worked in the mold loft and small boat shop in Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for the war effort . One of my dad’s tasks in the loft was developing patterns for the wooden bucks that the “ furnace plates “ were formed over - furnace plates being those hull plates with compound curvature that needed heating in a furnace to be formed. Most of his work was for the Iowa Class battleship USS New Jersey.
Very lucky to have had him and lucky to be a father myself- two daughters and now two granddaughters - my home has earned it’s title as “ The Estrogen Palace “
