Loose the ape hangers and slap on a decent looking, low slung tank and your in business. That frisco style mustang tank looks like garbage. That chop has potential.

Possibly.. I'm more a fan of the bobber look, but maybe. We can do something with this. If not..parts!

For sure. From looking at the pics it seems the hard tail job was done ok. Are the welds good or scary?

It's at dad's. I'll let you know tomorrow. ;)

16th commando engine? Interesting..

Honestly, the frame has potential if we get bored. More likely, we've got a lot of parts we can sell and a few we actually want to keep..

With drag bars and 19" wheels or even better 21" it would make a really nice bobber with very little cash.

As for the "extra motor", it's a late-model Atlas bottom end. I have no idea what the heads are, but they need some work.

I think the plan for the chopper is as follows:

-Remove the hub from the rear wheel
-Pull 1968 Commando motor
-Pull 850 tranny
-Remove entire front end, including wheel and disk

Those are the parts I want to keep. The rest of it? eBay, and bbye!

As for the application, I'm thinking we could either use a stock Commando frame to make a fastback, staying true to the motor.. OR we could find an old rigid hardtail brit frame and make a bobber. That sounds like a nifty option, too..

The bike started on the second kick and dad rode it down the street. The motor and tranny are both solid, but the brakes are atrocious (probably because the front disk isn't even hooked up!!!!). The carbs need rebuilt but they were OK enough for the bike to run fairly well.

What do you guys think?

I'll give you $2 for the horn. At least you can get to it.

oh man, what's up with those little headlights? That could be a rad bike pretty easily. I'd fab up some side covers to fill in that area with the battery tray- too much empty space. Then I'd dog the sh!t out of it until it blew up, but probably not a good idea if you wanna sell it

I really don't get the headlights, either.. Honestly, it might be an OK project but I think I'd rather have a bobber than any sort of chopper. Idk. I think we can make something we can be proud instead of just beating on this gay little chopper. It'd be a shame to destroy Commando motor #15 just for the sake of doing it!

I do like the magneto. Pretty nifty.

Maybe the guy liked really small breasts.

I didn't say that.

Beyooootiful bike!!! I think you should leave it like it is and get it bronzed. My '71 roadster was trying very hard to be a Harley when I bought it but it's over that now. Unfortunately I tossed my chrome ape hangers but yours look pretty good. Mine ran too when I bought it. I rode it home with steering that was more conceptual than precise. Really floppy. Nice parts!

lmao. I'm trying to sell the bike minus the '68 motor/850 transmission/front end for $1500. Let's see if someone bites. I've had some mild interest, as sad as that truly is!!!

Really? I wouldn't give $50 for what's left of it.

I concur. What's sad is that I can almost GUARANTEE someone out there will drop at least a grand on the leftovers. Sad!

Parting out is generally more lucrative than selling whole. It's not sad, it's just a different perspective on whats cool. Personally I have no use for a chopper of any kind, but bobbers on the other hand are cool in their own way. I like a roadster hands down to an interstate, but some people like an interstate to the roadster or triumph to norton or bsa to ajs, etc, etc. No right or wrong sad or not, just different and those differences are part of what makes owning and riding old bikes cool.

Still a chop or short chop. As soon as that hard tail was welded on that frame all possibilities of it being a bobber went out the window.Parts being removed or cut to lighten is a bobber. Sorry, just trying to keep terminology on track. These days people call everything without a long front end a bobber.

I'm not big on the whole chopper notion. I see this as 'sad' for two reasons I guess..

1) cutting up a commando frame is just wrong.
2) in all, this guy did a less-than-stellar job IN MY OPINION. It could be worse, but still..

Nevertheless, I'm all for letting someone overpay for the things don't want! I may have someone on the line for $1800 for a complete roller (including the front end which I really wanted to keep) and the Atlas bottom end/head. How he would fit that motor into the commando frame, I'm not really sure, but that wouldn't be my problem!

/fingers crossed

I love bobbers, but I'm just not a fan of raked-out choppers. Maybe it's because I'm so damn short.

I'd love to find a stock hardtail frame to work with. I've been looking, but I'm not finding much.
