Hi guys, looking for a good norton machinist yo clean and fo my top end. This is my first Norton 750 1971, need some frame welding too. I am in Niagara but a friend of mine John C , vintage raced and told me of Herb Becker but his contact info doesn't work. Any body in Ontario can recommend a good machinist in the region to help? would've to get this bike built up and powder coat the frame etc. I wanna ride lol Thanks in advance

I give ALL my machining work to Gord Bush in Etobicoke . Guides , rebores , etc .
Gord Bush Performance , 49 Fima Cres . Etobicoke .
He explains carefully what he's about to do , wears a lab coat and I've tried to get him to laugh or smile to no avail . Hint : He prefers cash to debit or credit cards . Good luck .
 
oh thanks. sounds like he does good work and he's not too far away. I travel to Scarborough often to see my parents. You ever used anyone in the area for powdercoating?

thanks again for the info, greatly appreciate it. I'm okay if there are no smiles lol as long as the work is good and I'm not stranded on the side of the road lol

I talked with Herb Becker a couple of months ago. I was hoping he might have a go at doing some mild porting work on a spare RH10 head that I have.
He wasn't interested in doing it as he is concentrating on his own projects only.
One of those was to hotrod an 8 horsepower J.A.P. flathead rototiller engine so that it now produces 24 horsepower, but maybe not for long :)

Garrett you are welcome . Gord also lets you walk through the shop , he has employees and machine shop teens in training too , from Humber College I think . . as for powder coating in the G.T.A. , I can't recommend ( my 76 baby is powder coated , purchased that way ) , except go to the World's largest motorcycle show coming up in 3 weeks at the International Center , ( Pearson airport ) . Many booths people to ask that question to . Enjoy .
 
Gord's the go-to guy, he's in his shop from 6am to 6pm everyday. Herb has been out of the game for some time now, I spoke with him at Doug MacRae's funeral and he mentioned he has no plans to do anything but his own projects.

Fendermanz,

I would recommend doing your homework with the powder coating so don’t get it into the wrong places.
Just my two cents.

Thank you for the info. I did get in contact with gord, says he uses bronze guides only, I know he specializes in racing motors. Is that okay for a daily rider bike? I was reading some say cast iron unless your racing.

I think the bronze , although marginally softer , can absorb oil so that it's always there when needed .
The iron type are stronger but do not retain oil in the material . Do whatever Gord says .
When he did my head he said get Mike at Walridge Motors to mail him ( to the shop ) 2 new bronze exhaust guides , which he then installed .
 
When I got my head work done, the well recommended local shop (Mongoose Racing) assessed everything, fitting bronze alloy guides KB black diamond valves. 3 angle cut seats and did helicoils for the three studs....ran around $450 CAD prior to recent inflation.
