Can anyone recommend a place in the states that does good steel tank repairs? I was given a steel roadster tank but it has a few dings and one of the mounting screws is gone, leaving a hole in the bottom.

Thanks,
DS

Is it just a missing stud or is it actually a hole that leaks fuel? On my 850 metal tank there are closed-ended 5/16" - 24 female threaded inserts in the tank metal that accept the tank mounting studs. On mine someone was using the rubber muffler mounts (stud muffins) in the rear. Not sure if this is kosher or not because it isn't that way in the parts book.

If it really needs work, Moyer Tank Renu is the go to place. But they aren't cheap, and you will end up having to repaint the tank. As batrider pointed out, you're probably just missing the stud from the insert.

It looks like the insert was actually knocked out. There is no way a new insert could be fitted into the hole. darn it

Ross Thompson can replace the thread insert. You would need to ship the tank to Canada or meet up with him at Vintage Days or some other meet he regularly attends in the states.
