A widow (widower) maker.

A museum piece only; once the subject of the largest recall in motorcycle history (at the time).

The more I thought about it the more concerned I became. I figured the only trhing to do was to contact the seller and at least tell him how dangerous that frame is:

"Dear seller. The frame you have up for sale is extreamly dangerous and was once the object of the largest recall in motorcycle history. The frame that replaced it has another tube welded under the backbone. I strongly suggest that you take this off auction and cut it up so that an unsuspecting buyer doesn't get killed. I have over 40 years experience with Norton's."

Maybe if a few more of you jump in...

I contacted him, that is a little scary, my 75 frame seems strong, but on the bottom end of acceptable. I can't imagine what a 68 frame would be like withthat much less material.

Seller posted your comments on his listing with a rebuttal. We can probably expect him to log in and post here pretty soon, threatening you guys with a lawsuit for interfering with his auction!

3 significant issues, 2 or 3 minor ones...

"Otherwise, the frame has no damage"

True statement!

It's only $9.99, a real bargain, so what if he makes out on shipping  I bet all the CSI teams would have trouble pinning a murder on you if you gave it to an ennemy though

???????????????????????????

The frame is a POS, if Norton could have gotten away with welding on a piece of metal, back in the day, they would have.

How fast did the recall go into effect? Are very many bikes with this type of frame still out there? I once bought a 67 / 68 Fastback at a garage sale for the huge sum of $75.00 from a kid who did not even know that Norton was the brand. This was about 1980 & It was complete but I didn't ride it much as I didn't like sitting so up right. I had a Dunstallized 71 / 72 that was my daily rider. Looking at this frame I'm glad I didn't ride the 68 much.

If the frame was over here in the UK..It'd been worth buying just for the VIN plate (if it has one).

Might make a suitable base for a coffee table. Or you could turn it back end up and use it to post-mount a mailbox.

Not that it'll do any good, but I sent him an email as well. I like the idea of paying for it and having him cut it up and emailing pictures of the destroyed frame. I do have to admit sending the exact same message from two different people made the original danger plea pretty ineffective.

These frames are a piece of history and a bunch of emails telling the guy to cut it up just prevented it from getting sold to someone who may have wanted to preserve it. Personally, I would have loved to have it hanging in my shop and the price was right....I sincerely hope he puts it back up.

If you want it bad enough email him and make him an offer he can't refuse. History or not there are enough unsuspecting people out there to use it as is.

The last 68 frame that I saw sell on ebay whent for an amount that I could barely comprehend...based on that I seriously doubt that the winning bidder would have been someone dumb enough to build it into a bike. And if he/she was....I call that natual selection :D

Look, I'm not trying to be an ass, but here's a guy that's clearly a standard scrap/junk dealer putting a million listings on ebay. Guys like this sell mostly trash and at the same time they occasionally sell things that rarely see the light of day. What they dont need is a bunch of internet hero's emailing them saying "you're a bastard and going to kill someone!!!!!" . If it's going to get sold to someone who can operate the internet, odds are they've heard of the '68 recall and know what they're buying. The alternative is some knucklehead who cant spell Harley walks in off the street and buys it to build a chopper....so who exactly are we saving "Moms" of the world?

BTW, boyers vs points? I'm just trying to make people mad!

I already did....Thanks mom!

Come on guys, Lighten up! It's motorcycles, not politics.
