Ive got the best of both worlds having the Bandit & A commando.
Before the commando I had an Atlas.
I bought my commando in 1973 for £652 & have had it from new.
I know it was a cheeky statement but you have to admit if Norton had made the bandit they might still be in busuiness.
I'm proud of the Norton Heritage but Jap bikes are very good.
If I had to sell one it would be the bandit.
Does this let me off the public folgging ?.
I hope so.
cheers Don

Hmm not sure maybe if you say more nice things about the Commando.....:) BTW I had a Bandit I borrowed for a week handling at high speed on Motorway was BAD how is yours

Hi PLJ,
my bandit handles fine at 120mph on the motorway but thats as fast as ive had the bottle to do on it.
I had a 90/100 mph cruise down to donnington for the Norton Golden Jubilee event & it handled without fault.
I was unsure about going on the commando as i'm not confident I had ironed out all the little problems after stripping & re building it. I seem to have it sorted now though & it handles a lot better with the Dave Taylor Head steady on it. Also ive not had any more trouble with the fouled plugs have got the carburation right.
Last time I rebuilt the commando 25 years ago I did it in the living room.
I know Kev Feltoe of Norfolk branch gets all over the place on his commando.
One of our branch members in Yorkshire was lucky enough to win the NOC raffle commando. Lets hope they come out on a branch run on it next year.
Have you looked at our website (yorkshirenortonownersclub.org.uk) there are some pics of our branch rides.
Maybe see you at next years Norton Day in Norfolk in August.
HAPPY RIDING
Don

First off, I only read your initial post. Didn't read any of the replies. Keep in mind I'm a newbie. Anyway, sounds EXCATLY like the way it works when there a failing fiberglass tank involved. I'm now an expert on THAT! :(

Anyway... do you happen to have a fiberglass tank? If so, even if sealed... the sealer is failing. Unless, that is, you and everyone else has tracked it down to something else. If you've fiberglass, and still not resolved it, give me a yell. Best of luck, and hope you've already got it sorted out.

Hi, after reading your post my first thought would be not to panic a small issue and by the sounds of it you have a couple months between spark plug changes to sort it out. A small adjustment if any. First off I have to ask why you felt your fairly new plugs were useless? Unless the electrode has been wore/burned I would think clean up regap and reuse would be acceptable just my opinion. Next I would suggest because it happens over time to remove and check your plugs more often and this will give you a good indication of what is happening. From what information you give this condition builds up over a period of time. Also your driving habits could contribute to this condition. I don't know if you baby it along or drive hard enough to burn the carbon out of her. Having the choke on too long or at idle too long can foul the plugs. Once your up and running you normally would burn this carbon off. So I suppose if you drive like granny and sit at idle for long periods of time you would gradually built up enough to foul your plugs. But if you check your plugs more often and burn out some carbon during your rides you will get an idea whats up. Small if any adjustment to mixture.
