Looks like our east coast in for a shit kicking from nicely named hurricane Fiona … hope all living along north east coast of nort America are prepared … close to 200mm of rain forecast in next 24 hrs with sustained winds of 120 kph on the way a bit later this evening into tomorrow , took my bird feeder down and said a prayer …. take care of you and yours if living in Fiona’s path ….

Frankie seems quite worried!

Better do as he says and get your pizzas and chinese food ordered now.

Stay safe!

Have experienced these before , never gets easier , it just bites to witness damage once it clears off , Frankie is “right on” this could be worse than Jaun back in ‘02 or ‘03 it knocked everything down in it’s path …. roads impassable due to downed trees and wires for weeks …. etc. , etc. …..

Been a tough summer all round for us out west in US fire and brimstone, oh yeah, smoke. But I think you've got the worst of it there in the Maritimes. We're thinking of you all. Always wanted to tour that part of Canada. Hope you weather the storm OK.

Oh boy , this a serious blow , power been gone few hours now and still escalating outside , wind is well over 90kph with gusts much more than predicted 120 kph at least up here on foundry hill , hope no one gets hurt , what a racket going on out there !
Hope you make it up here some day , would love to show ya around , usually best of year is fall , haha!

We lost 3 trees on 1/2 acre and maybe 8 shingles off north facing roof , took a drive around town and in 2 words a shit show , most streets have some type of blockage trees , wires , small buildings etc. , power return is estimated to take 4 days minimum , did I mention flooding and washed out roads …. Made my coffee this morning with a propane torch , was very welcome , once I realized no camp stove fuel …. Dah

As long as you can make coffee, life is tolerable.
When there is no morning coffee available, best to stay in bed until things improve somehow!

Craig: So glad to hear you're here to tell the tale. Makes me think I should smarten up my emergency preparedness kit. Winter's on its way, then rather than three, there's only two ways out of our valley, one with 60 odd bridges, the other over a high mtn. pass. We do have a generator so we can pump water. Is your water system intact? No power for 4 days! That's scary. Hope everybody pulls together.

Thankfully municipal water is gravity fed to us , half way down foundry hill , no boosters till it crosses under river …. started cleanup so I can get at downed trees , I’m ready now to start chain saw next time of fair weather , power came back magically some time late this afternoon , yeah ! …. Missed my Raiders game but going to spend evening in front of tv , tomorrow can finish front end of Ducati ,(rain) , then business as usual almost , have some shingles to replace and trees to remove for friends , all good here and wife and I still on speaking terms ! …. amazing amount of damage all over central Nova Scotia , sadly …

Good to hear you came through it relatively unscathed. Watching coverage, homes being swept into ocean in NFLD. Only one death as far as i've heard.
The recovery effort is well underway so with some luck, things will be back on line in a few days.

Glad you all have fared as well as you have. My wife and I have visited White Point Beach in Nova Scotia several times and really enjoyed it. I hate to think of such a nice area devastated by mother nature.

Thanks ! …. Just guessing maybe White Point was spared as the worst of this storm , more north and east got hit hardest , our town is shut down , can’t really drive anywhere and walking is dangerous with downed power lines , officials hope to open main streets by Thurs/Friday … our north shore just over Nuttby Mtn. 30 minutes from our home got crushed ….

Thank goodness , the current prediction is we may get some moisture from tail end of Ian , NS would go broke if we had to deal with one real hurricane more often than 10-20 yr span which is our varied average , obviously we get lots of damaging wind ( called gales here) less than half our little town has power now 6 days after Fiona , much of north eastern NS still in the dark with limited roads open due to downed trees , poles, washouts etc ….
