Thanks CF, is "novalac" a brand name or type of VE resin?
Is "synthetic veil" or tissue a very fine light chop strand? like the tissue chop strand used as the first coat when making a seat etc from a mold?

The things you recomend may be refered to by different names here?

I would suggest looking at the chemical resistance data provided by most resin manufacturers (as I suggested), which should provide details of a suitable novalac VE resin, which you would be able to obtain locally.

Have a look at this for accurate chemical resistance data: http://www.derakane.com/downloadServlet ... 10_aug.pdf

Polymer chemists have a certain "slang" just like normal people.

"Novalac" was originally coined by Leo Baekeland, the inventor of Bakelite. It referred to phenolic resins (of which epoxies and epoxy vinyl esters are a subset) in which the molar ratio of formaldehyde to phenol is less than one.

In modern polymer chemistry this has been loosely interpreted in epoxy resins as those starting with Bisphenol F and epichlorohydrin rather than "normal" epoxy which is made from Bisphenol A and epichlorohydrin. Bis F and Bis A are very similar molecules but when made into a resin have different properties. So a "Novolac" epoxy vinyl ester is simply one which is made from Bisphenol F as a starting substance.
