hi can you help me? on my slimline featerbed frame the horizontal stampings are r(1960) but there is a 1 next to it.this doesnt seem to relate to anything.any ideas? kind regards.ian (lms2000uk@yahoo.co.uk)

Are you sure there isn't another number obscured next to the 1? 14 for a model 99 or 122 for a model 88?
I have found that for some reason indistinct numbers are sometimes easier to decipher in a photograph than directly off the frame.

Its unusual to even see an R on a 1960 frame ?
Nortons dropped the year letter about then...

You had me thinking Rohan, interesting what i don't know about my own bikes.
1960 ES2 - after a look in the garage, the R4 stamp is on the engine case only, the frame (wideline) just has the 5 figure number.

My 57 Wideline starts with a 14 then the other numbers under the 4 and my 60 Slimline starts with a 18 and the other numbers under the 8 hope this helps as the numbers can be hard to read.
