I am swearing off anymore fun projects as every single one has failed miserably to point of indeterminate recovery. Every combustion powered thing I have is down for the count but last car blow up replacement suddenly sounding like a Latin of sports car. Can't get Peel once perfect fit swing arm to pass a spindle and been a couple of years failed attempts to get tubeless rim tire to hold air. So recent downer is horrifically tight fitting of new $170 rear tractor tire broke off a tip of gasket scrapper lever and chipped up the bead area and now the $100 Tubliss insert will not hold air. Nice out today to point could heat front tire inside in sun so hoping for at least one step forward among the set backs was pleased it spooned on just like in the movies and sealed bead on inflation, so took to spring branch to find two nipples bubbling plus the tubeless stem. Ugh lots and lots of wasted cycles of effort just to be rid of tubes. Can't get Trixies caliper cap off with serious heated attempt while mounted on forks and now expect more terrific fight with in in my much abused vice. Spent most a $1000 on big mower engine going by air cooled wisdom here but when finally got engine installed in mower & just needed throttle cable hooked up the governor failed to move out the blue. Inspection found its gears had fallen off shafts, which online refences say impossible unless engine cases apart and tipped on side or the composite gear worn out. Non of that applies in my case. This Governor is at top of block so EVERYTHING must be completely dissassembled to even reach it. A task rather more complex than simple Norton as oil pump and cam and govenor drive all mush time together and speical tools to pull items, so gave up on that block. Have 3 spare blocks one might work but that's more non Norton time lost. Took some relief I had my handy SuVee to ride on days like today instead of just failing agin but after last ride shut down it only clips starter relay and now blow fuses after I removed battery to have a look. Another Peel project and Trixie sealing delay. Wifes Honda scooter worked perfect till I rode it and park under cover at late brother Dales place but on next use it cut out shorter and shorter distances till would not start so Wes trailer me home. It needs plastic fastener kit to put back so gave up on it with the crisis of homestead vitals blowing up, propane system to ice falls on power lines and big sliding door falling apart ahead of any Norton fun time. Fireplace fire box cracked in 3 places last winter so smoke would fill home but too polluted to electric weld which I'd have to buy or rent. Normal grind and flux let braze roll right off the vertical face. We loose winter power at times &o can't let pipe inside freeze or pets and plant so tried Peel frame pickle juice that worked and 3 feet of braze resiting the blazes, which I use to heat the failed swing arm about 300'F to get bushes in and out and in and out. At leas chain saws working but pu truck I haul wood in quite after using fine and even with spark and compression and ether in carb and spark so hot jumps screw driver handle into arm to header with bright blue tracers and a few others familar with this model truck checking wires and hoses and tubes, no go, just more non Norton time and drag. Otherwise healthy and praised at work so just crying in my beer and some defense why the long draw out Norton reports. I get rather more tough tales from too many others all over the world for decades so know I'm dam lucky to still be functional and some family left. Its knowing pure luck has some much influence on us I'm pensive about living long enough to get some Peel payback or just a neat looking non-funciton art piece I could of had a heated swimming pool instead.

My God hobot. sounds like you got the blues. Being able to fix stuff often sends us down the rabbit hole of acquiring more stuff of the quality that we know will need fixing. Happens to me more than I like. Sometimes I just look around and think "shit, everything I got is broken". But at other times most of what I got is working pretty well. The key at that point is to not think this is a permanent condition and take on another orphaned project. Work your way through it my friend. Intersperse the things you have to absolutely have working right now with the funnish (Norton) stuff.... And for the time being, stay away from the guns.

Broken Norton Kicker Leg keeping leg up high to keep blood from pooling falls off desk to hit ground. Screw of reading glasses pops out letting glasses fall to ground too ,notice from building admin. that someone has hooked up washer/dryer system pipes up backwards causing hot water to be cool and cold to run all warm. Salt buildup on stairs and dishes in sink. Daylight so weak have to take vit. D. supplements plus can't get up to loft safely to get any more Norton parts down for armchair polishings, need to ask help etc. Good that wheelchair awaiting our arrival at airport for magnificent escape to sun n' fun shortly.There.

Put DOWN the tools.... hands in the air.... back away slowly.... :P

It's alright, sometimes it just FEELS like everygoddamnedthingiseffedup. Prioritize, focus, chip away. One fiasco at a time, you'll get through

Time for a new bike. !!
Doesn't have to be NEW, note, just another one, that goes....

And stop meddling, so much ?

Yes Steve it get frustrating sometimes but like Concours said, just widdle away one at a time and if you have to wait for parts go to the next one and if the blues get you down again just walk away and come back another day, my friend who brought a new rideon mower has had more problem with it than anything he has owned, been fixed by the shop that many time, finaly got it back so goes to mow his jungle and the blade disc falls off, he was so pissed off he got off the thing and started to kick the shit out of it and what happens, he now has a broken mower again as well as a broken foot, so stay cool and walk away when it gets you down.

Did you see the gent with the JEEP that had been back to the dealership for fxin something like 14 times.
He publically burnt it - and invited the TV crews !!

Hobot, sounds like the bush mechanicing has finally got the better of you, swap the load carrier rack from Trixie to the going bike, cart all the non Norton stuff and household items piece by piece to town slowly along the gravel road for the experts to fix, ride sedately home so no bear or deer strikes and keep away from the Phase 5 handling stresses ,concentrate working step by painful step on the Nortons, hey presto , going bikes and time to ride them.
keep off the keyboard for a day or two as well to clear your head!! Good luck
Regards Mike

You can get to the stage where you pinch yourself with the pliers break terminals of wires and drop objects into the works. Shut the shed door and lock it. Then go inside and set up your TV to show Youtube clips and watch the bike ones and a few music clips until you get your head straight. When you go back into the shed it will all be much easier.

When I go into the shed, its like a sauna in there sometimes lately.
Looking forward to autumn.... !

I've had seasons like that. It is time to say 'F*ck it', grab the wife, and head on into town. Don't do anything productive for a day or two. Clear your head.
Find a easy job to do with the Norton, quit putting it off.
Lawn mowers suck. Period. Replace lawn with permaculture plantings.
Good news on the wood stove, heat is important this time of year.

Now, Go.

@hobot

Look at it this way...sounds as if it can't get any worse, therefore it has got to get better.

Of course, it could be raining.....

That's what I do when the you know what hit's the fan.

A new/old bike will clear your head right up. If it's messed up worse than the other ones they will all the sudden be easy to fix.

Works every time. :D

PS. Put some tubes in those tubeless tires :D

What has worked for me in the past ... when faced with similar situation was fairly simple ... I concentrated on my breathing and put one foot ahead of the other and so on ...

Maybe using the right tools for the job could increase the chances for success of your projects.

Don't seek sympathy just public admitting my ongoing defeats over less crap than many others suffer but my time money and will power spread to thin. My fault on some things but those are obvious and fixable. Getting hurt working and breaking tools is life time routine I expect as just part of getting a nasty task done. Norton are the most fun thing in this phase of life but are the lowest in priority. Maybe forum mental focus will work magic again but didn't ride much this year and looks slim most of next year at this rate. Oh yeah Peel's engine arrived this week after 7.5+ yrs away with delays but still in crate until a bunch of other thing work first. I don't think with all Peel's extra fluff she can match Ludwig's wonder but sure expect more power to weight - eventually. Then what for?

Steve, classic saying, " if you are going through hell, just don't stay too long"
Emma Peel, never gave up, John Steed saw to that!!!!
Regards Mike

I changed my original suggestion to this:

When I started back into motorcycles after years away it happened in a strange way and I ended up with two project bikes.

I realized early on that I wouldn't be riding either of them soon so went out and bought a bike that ran good so I could ride.

Makes it much easier to continue on with the projects.

So Rohan's original advice was right on. :D
