Although they do look like the ones on the left, I'm not sure they are the same. I don't have them to hand at the moment, but will have a measure up at the weekend. That could well be the answer though. thanks gortnipper.

They wont be exactly the same since yours are aftermarket bronze with the three big lugs, instead of originally one. The should measure either long or short, depending on the version though.

Dommie Nator: Creative, must be effective, but ugly as "original sin"

Locking tabs: A perfect part for the workaholic who is in love with the "lather, rinse, repeat" routine, but forgets to insert the "stop" statement. Pure frustration at a reasonable price that is the wrong solution to the right problem...go rebuild another Lucas headlight bulb.

Tighten the damn nuts every heat cycle until they stop moving, then every other heat cycle; doesn't matter if your engine is shut down, at idle or at redline, does matter that the engine is at OT. On long rides bring the tool and check torque after some spirited riding, good idea to come to a stop first or have a very talented passenger who can co-pilot or has long arms and nuts of tool steel...

I experienced this issue once in 1971, in the middle of nowhere. Once I got my shit together I found a 3/4" (roughly) of oak branch and a rock, problem solved, the "green way".

Best?

I've just fitted these aluminium ones from Andy Molnar. They are half the weight of the chromed brass ones I had on before. They should expand and contract the same as the head. I was instructed to use copper grease.
We'll see how they perform!
