I have, in my Triton project , a Norton clutch which I believe is from an ES2. Previously I was advised that the pressure plate bolts (there are three and no central adjuster) have to be tightened fully. This makes the clutch action incredibly stiff. However, advice I came across today has now left me confused. The advice was that I only need screw them in flush to the spring cups. What is correct ? Should these clutches also have a half ‘n’ half plate? Mine lacks such a plate, but I figure that the addition of one would make the lever action easier.

Extract from maintenance manual.

“Screw up nuts until studs come up just flush with end of nuts and adjust as necessary to ensure square withdrawal of pressure plate”
