Dunstall Ex 2-1-2

Engineers are not scientists. I once read a paper from the Society of Automotive Engineering about motorcycle handling. The upshot of it was - 'we don't know what we are talking about'. There were no conclusions about anything other than that riding on roads which have grooved bitumen surfaces is dangerous. How many engineers are proficient in multivariate data analysis - pattern recognition ? Most of them cannot even use statistics to deal with uncertainty. - Everything is black and white ?

When you road-race a motorcycle, how many variables are there ? My suspicion is that if Paul Dunstall used that exhaust system for racing, it probably works. However I think you would find it has been surpassed in performance by modern versions.

Unless it was written by Prof Gordon Blair what was the significance of the paper you quote being mince.

I might be cynical, but there might be a big difference on motivation between a university professor such Blair and people such as Phil Irving and Tony Foale.

I refer you back to my post #27 on this topic and ask once again
How do you shape up by comparison ?
