Hey, All you primary dry belters out there,
I intend following forum advice to use kluber sprag lube on the Mk111 sprag.
What now, please , do belters use as a non- fling useful lube to go on the starter gears and needle rollers?
Almost out of the eye of this dry belt Bermuda Triangle storm.
Thank you in advance.
Michael.

Michael on a Mk3 its not only the sprag that needs lube but also the needle roller that the starter gear runs on, how do you tension your primary belt?, what part of NZ are you in?

Hi, yes the needle rollers, scrolled sleeve and gear teeth want lubricating, that was the nub of my question running a Norvil dry belt.

Mk3 + dry belt primary = wornout, seized ES mechanism. There is no magic solution to this, The Mk3 NEEDS oil to lube the primary. There is a reason why any Mk3 owners that have a belt drive fitted haven't commented on this subject, They have found out that the belt drive and the Mk3 ES mechanism don't mix. This shows itself when the lube in the sprag assembly dries out and the sprag seizes, destroying the starter motor. They then remove said starter (remember i said in a previous post about all the belt fitted Mk3s i had come across had no starter motor fitted)

Ha, Thanks dobba99,
That was nice of all those Mk3 owners to stay quiet and let me discover this discomfort all in my own time. It's apparently then, kickstarter or crunch time, so kickstarter it is.
Thanks.

Remember to remove the sprag and drive gear, not just the starter motor.
