Ive had a go at making the 961 headlamp look a bit more in keeping with the whole retro theme. Those of you on Facebook would have probably seen my first attempt, where I cocked up and cracked it. But I'm back in business now with another, and better quality, Lucas replica lens.
Appreciated was hit or miss on Facebook, which is fair enough....there's some people out there that buy Honda's, so obviously we all have different opinions :D But I'm loving the look personally. The camera doesnt really do it justice, its like when I tried to photograph the missus's engagement ring for her family to see....loses it twinkle.

Haha just for that dim glow effect?

For those interested in my baking technique...fan oven at 120° for approx 8min. Great British Bake Off has nothing on my skills :D

Stu, if you want to go one step further ( no cooking required) ...

Arrgghhhhh I'm mega torn on those badges....was when we started doing them at the factory. As much as I like the Norton Road Holder badges....it's wearing Ohlins fork decals with pride. Those forks are around £2.5k o_O

Regards fitment of those. At factory they were stuck on. The supplied rivets that came with them, were ground down and just held in place a blob of rtv.

I think they suit the black forks which look more period.

I do like the new Lucas lens. Unfortunately I would have the confidence to separate the lens from the reflector and applying a new watertight seal to the new lens. Especially being my only lens and parts availability!

Can't you replace the whole light unit as well ? (lens and relector unit) You may not have a place for the pilot bulb though .

....I have one spare Lucas lens....

Originally I replaced the whole unit, but the reflector quality was poor when compared to the Norton supplied lamp, see pics.
As a side note, I can get replacement standard Norton lamps, and also the same again with a chrome rim.

I went down a diffrent route, the original headlight is the worst light I have had in fifty five years of biking and that includes the worst from the 'Prince of Darkness' himself. If you wanted to look at low flying aircraft or cows in the next field it was perfect, but if for some strange reason you needed to see where the road ahead went it was useless. I bought a 'Cibie' reflector lens and fixed it into the original chrome rim with 'W' cllips and silicone , then added an LED bulb and HEY PRESTO let there be light. It has passed an MOT with this setup and as winter approaches and I spend more time riding in the dark it is worth every penny to be able to safely see where I am going , it has a typcal 'Cibie' slash cut off for the dip (correct way) and a piercing long range pencil beam on full. It amazes me how few people actually ride after dark , it's quite entertaining , really give it a try.

Chrome rim...sounds like you have the early lamp with the plastic bowl? I found the later all metal lamp to be pretty decent at night...much better than the efforts that Ducati past off as headlights on a couple of their sports bikes
