Hello All. hope u r well.
been a while since my last visit , had a lot going on but am feel home again. one problem was Microsift locked me out of my email and boy, for a Luddite that was an ordeal.
one question first please. I must have missed all the brouhaha and subsequent stink.Whatever happened to Norton Mittagong. got the shits or booted off. Hobot, u still the man. those types of blokes will come and go from here. the forum seems a better place now.

Anyway to decompression valves.
1. not having a spare head to examine, r u sure there is no way to fit one of those automatic decomp valves to a Norton commando.
2. if you could, would much development work need to be done. this is to ensure the escape orifices are suitable for a cylinder of 420cc approx. I wonder if those chainsaw valves would be suitable as they are for up to 200cc cylinder capacity.
I saw a setup where a auto decomp valve was fitted but needed special drilled plugs, external tubing to the valve. that is a bit messy.
As for the debate about starting Nortons, on their wheels etc, some of us r having great difficulty kicking the bike over. this is because of physical disability, or sickness. I have to get mates to actually kick for me often.. I dont care how or who starts it, just so I can then ride it. I probably should not even be riding, but I will continue till I cant or die trying.
Is there a longer kick start available. not the 850 one , but something about 2 inches longer?. this seems to be the most practical solution for me at this time.
Anyway best wishes to all and good to be back Bradley

Don't stop riding! How about scraping some coin together and installing an electric start?

Hi Bradley

If you want a longer kickstart lever I brought one from RGM its a folding kickstart lever based on the Triumph T160 with the Norton spline, I have had mine on my bike for over 5 years now, its longer than the Norton kickstart and the best thing is it folds away from your leg, you get a better swing on the kickstart with less effort, the part no. is 050179, the orginal kickstarts keep coming loose on my shaft but since I have had this one on it has never come loose.
My motor is very high compression and I have no troubles at all with kicking my bike over with this kickstarter and never go back to a orginal kickstarter, as for a electric starter at over $2,500 I could think of better improvement to spend my money on for my Norton, but I will get others that will disagree with me, my bike is set up to run without a heavy battery so a electric starter is no good for me, but if your bike is turned right it should be a one kick to start wheather hot or cold.

Good luck

Ashley
