So I've seen some comments about "Les". Is that this site? Norvil

And then there is Mick Hemmings at [Broken Link Removed]

Then who does [Broken Link Removed] get their parts from?

Yes, Norvil is Les. Fair Spares sells many of the same Norvil parts.

I have always had excellent customer service from Norvil...just as fast getting parts from England as it is direct in the US.

I believe there is a buisiness connection between Fair Spares America and The Norvil Motorcycle Co. (Les Emery) who prevously traded under the name of Fair Spares in the UK.

The Norvil Motorcycle Co. does not have exclusive rights to the Norvil name. So Mick Hemmings also sells his own 'Norvil' parts.

4. MICK HEMMINGS MOTORCYCLES have been continuously manufacturing
NORVIL parts in the period 1974 to present, with the knowledge and assistance of
both ANDOVER NORTON and NORTON MOTORS LTD.
A FULL COPY OF THE COURT TRANSCRIPT WITH SUPPORTING EVIDENCE IS
AVAILABLE AT MICK HEMMINGS MOTORCYCLES FOR INSPECTION BY ANYONE
WHO WISHES.

Yeah, I'm just trying to figure out if people are wary of buying from Les or they just like giving him a hard time for being bitter about Mick?

I often see people listing that they have Norvil parts and wonder if there is any difference in quality between the two dealers?

Some time ago, during a phone conversation I had with Angela Hemmings I happened to raise the subject of them getting a proper website, and I was told in no uncertain terms, that they did not want anything to do with websites or the internet, as they were already busy enough!

I don't think Angela actually meant that they wanted to turn trade away, just that it was a reasonably small business operation that they could cope with as it was, and were content for it to remain that way.

I've always found Mick/Angela Hemmings much easier to deal with, friendly, no bullshit or fobbing you off.....and a quick (next day) service.....one phone call is all it takes, and if a part is faulty (I've never had any from Mick) then much easier to get resolved. Also, they get their hands dirty and know what they're talking about. A big website doesn't mean a quality business, it just means big advertising...............and if your reputation is good enough, you don't need a big ad!

When "norvil/les emery" sell off parts cheaper than normal....e.g. "Norvil" fork legs, they are seconds which are really sub standard and would need a lot of work to be serviceable

Hi Dave,

If you deal with the north American souces you will get a break on shipping costs from England. The dealers consolidate shipments where you would be paying for small individual orders. On the west coast most brick and morter dealers have closed. Rabers (Bob and son Mike) survives in San Jose which is where Phil Radford (Fair Spares America) is located. Phil is a mail order operation only. As was mentioned Phil got his start with Les Em and Fair Spares, hence the name of his company. Local guys stand behind their parts and that makes them a valuable source compared to one 6,000 miles away in another country. You can tell Bob and Phil are old friends

I've worked with companies in the PDX area and understand your issues - Mick and Angie Hemmings are easy to deal with via fax if that helps?

If you refer to Cliff Majhor (sp?) aka the "Sandy Lane Bandit" in Portland...he's the exception not the rule for local dealers. You never wanted to look for a bargain at Cycle Hub. Just pay the man what he asked or leave. :?

Cliff was definitely an original!! Although if you listened to his stories and looked at all his old pictures his prices became more reasonable. He even took me for a tour (or more accurately a crawl) through that old shop. I thought I had gone back 30 years in time!

So where do RGM fit in to all this? I have to say they are generally cheaper than Norvil (Les) & their delivery time in the UK is lightening fast

Actually no! This was nothing to do with bikes, and more to do with my former day-job on helicopters - I never got beyond riding a couple of H-Ds in the hills around Sandy and across the Columbia river to the H-D dealership in Vancouver WA - great memories, but I don't have the figure for true Hog ownership :mrgreen:

90% of my rebuild came from RGM, and everything sent has been good - I also got equally good service from Mick Hemmings and Norvil; all of them next-day, but then I live pretty much equidistant between all of them (if that's possible)
