I have the equipment, so to satisfy my curiosity I put a Type K thermocouple under each of my spark plugs and went for a ride just for information. I mounted two T/C readouts on the handlebars so I could see the readings simultaneously and note variation.
Day was hot (93F) and sunny. The bottom line is that at a steady 60 mph the readings stabilized at 320F left cyl and 329F right cylinder. At every speed the Right was around 10 degrees hotter than the Left. I don't know why but don't think it is enough to worry about.
Do these temps seem in the ball park for a MK3 under these conditions?

please post a photo of the k and tc items ...and as installed, thanks

Id be curious to hear what the readings are if you swap side to side...

I don't know, so I'll ask the obvious question. Does this accurately reflect head temperature, or just the spark plug temperature?

It is a good indication of head temperature around the spark plugs.

That temperature at the spark plug hole would give you around 400 degrees in the center of the head between the cylinders. [normal]

Only 10 degrees different is pretty good but it simply means the mixture, timing or compression is not perfectly matched, or the wind was coming from the side.

Thanks for the information. Going to Barber this year?
