My fubar crank is out. The crank on the bottom is the one that came out. .060 undersized journals, badly dinged up ends, etc. Along with that, the inside of the cases appear to have been welded several times and beaten on with a brick hammer, hence my looking for a set of pre-combat cases.

Can anyone tell me why someone would have drilled all those holes in it? Balancing of some kind? Lightening?

All that I know is that the inside of this motor looks like it was put together at one time by a stoned Harley mechanic with a hatchet. Gee, I can't imagine why this motor blew up...

Thanks in advance.

Crankshaft question

Typically you see Norton cranks with balance holes drilled on the tdc area of the flywheel that were originally installed in featherbed bikes, in the Commando where they changed the balance factor you usually see the holes drilled in the BDC area.

The inside of this motor looks like it was put together in the Flintstone era. I'll post more pics tomorrow. I have never heard of anything like this in my life. Live and learn I guess.

Apparently a ' balancer ' drilled a lightening hole through one of the crank bolts on one too , so the story goes . . . Bang
