When at home my preferred tool for doing stuff on-line is a desktop (iMac)
I also like listening to music, mostly CD's
I took delivery last week of a new set of speakers for this computer - Edifier S350DB (two speakers and a sub-woofer) - only $340AUD

Sounds absolutely great.
As I type this I'm listening to JJ Cale's posthumous album (Stay Around), maybe his best.
I think if more people listened to good music then maybe less bad things would happen on this revolving rock of ours.
Cheers

Unfortunately what constitutes good music might start more arguments than an oil thread😬 but I agree about JJ Cale

Yep on arguments nope on "Tulsa Sound" :) However, he is to be respected for his work with the Rock greats.

Work with the rock greats, LOL. Eric Clapton wanted to be him. That's pretty high praise. Cale was a rock great. He's a seasoned jazzman disguised as a rocker.

Got a lot of vinyl but can't say I own any Cale. That doesn't mean I'm not familiar with his stuff. And I don't care for Claptons cover. But Cale and Leon were tight. That's good enough for me.

I replaced my computer speakers with a set of Edifers 3 years ago and am very happy with them.
Low end or high volume they handle/deliver very well.
I don't like wearing headphones so these are a big improvemen over original speaker offerings IMHO.
JJ Cale 👍 .
All of my older cast-off amps and speakers end up in the garage/shop to the point where I have a pretty decent sound system set up.
Sometimes the kids next door playing basketball will stick their head in and ask what or who I am listening to...my wife has a shirt that reads "our" age group got to hear all the good bands.
Quite accurate in my opinion.

No, it’s the lyrics that are considered to be misogynistic.
Also it is now wrong for a man to hold a door open for a woman. That used to be just good manners but now it is saying “ you are a feeble girl who can’t even open a door.
Most of us older folk just ignore it all and consider those who have been pushing this nonsense for many years to be idiots.

So, being attracted to a woman that is visually pleasing is a hate crime?
You poor bastards!

The Met police force have just come to their senses and announced that they are stopping investigations into such “non-crime” hates.
AKA They stopped pissing into the wind.
Hard to comprehend such actions as criminal....lunacy fringe mandating they know what is best for you...again.

During my all too brief time in college ( 1972 ish ) when all this stuff began (good manners being considered as insults ) a young lady bummed a cigarette from my buddy . He obliged and then took out his lighter to give her a light .
She called him a chauvinist pig so he smacked the cigarette out of her mouth and put it back in his pack .

The cost of all the claims against them with the Free Speech Union lawyers having a field day did it in for them, not because they recognise they were wrong. The Collage of Policing is still there advising otherwise and the MET is only one of many Police forces.

I have a small TV in my lounge room which sits on a cabinet in front of a smart TV which is mounted on the wall. I also have a Digitech Android media player with a powered USB hub plugged into it. The small TV has an audio lead which is plugged in to a 1980s Pioneer stereo amplifier which powers two old but expensive bookshelf speakers. On my computer in the family room, I have Minitool Video Editor Minitool Video Converter and Internet Download Manager. I download travel videos and put music to them. I also watch travel videos on the large TV with the sound turned-off, and with my own choice of music controlled by the media player on the small TV. On Youtube, there is a travel video on Nevada. When it is accompanied by blues-rock music, it is great.
I get what you are saying about JJ Cale and Eric Clapton. The two together are really great. The MP4 videos which I put together are 4 Gigabyte, and last for one hour each. If I run them through the video converter, the sound track is available as MP3 - about ten of those fit on an audio CD, which plays in my car - it has a 6 stack CD player. If you do this - create a data disk, NOT a CD audio.
I often assemble I hour concerts of individual artists and groups.
At present I have two 1 terabyte USB memory sticks which I am fighting with. One for music videos. the other for travel videos. In my computer I have two 1 terabyte hard drives, and both are nearly full. When I transfer large amounts of data to USB I get corruption, and often have to re-format the USB. My baby grand daughter loves changing the music for the travel videos on the large TV. It is really funny - the advertisments go un-noticed.

I cannot provide a link to any of my creations - there are too many copyright issues. I hate watching individual video clips. And hour-long video maintains the mood.
It is really sad. My mother died in 2007. She used to have insomnia and watch early morning TV, and hated it These days, I could do so much more for her. What TV channels put to air is obscene - a waste of excellent technology.
