I love fishing stories... Keep working your spot as sooner or later you will get that bugger, Don't give up. Picture available upon request!

I have always said "when an old fisherman starts telling stories, grab a beer and join in. When he starts telling secrets shut up and listen."

So for me I will listen to the stories of those who have done it, are doing it, love to do it. I don't have much use for people who pretend to do it and want to be recognized as experts because of a superior attitude.

FWIW I love fishing the Baja, I too have Gorda Bank stories, a few Jimmie Bank stories, and probably a few that are even true. Just ask Minerva about the guy from Juneau, Alaska.

If you want to see what top speed on a Norton looks like, this is the Daytona race I was speed gunned at 129 mph

26 pages.... really - fish stories and 160+ mph feats - wow it really must be bad weather, or people prefer typing over riding

remember as once stated by a wiser man than me -

the advice given on forums/the internet is usually worth ever cent you pay for it.....

Now there are those here that i think most of us would acknowledge as having great insight - while others tend to be or own- "keyboard commandos"

its up to the reader to decide

At 26 pages and still counting, this thread's got legs akin to Brett Favre's consecutive game record--nothing will ever best it!

As far as one's opinion about telling tales, all I can say is based on my experience on other bulletin boards or forums, if you're not safe to tell stories here and get a friendly reception, you won't be safe anywhere. And that's da troot......

Damn Dougie! I just watched that on my hi def monitor and recording studio speakers. I'm all fired up! Let's go!

We gotta do that again. I won't run wide and you stay on the bike. Deal?

Hi Doug

Thanks for that!
The exhaust note is fantastic! Looks like you & Kenny were having fun. I put a Steve Maney 2 into 1 pipe on the middle of last season for the ground clearance.
I believe what Steve says about a bit more up top & a lot more in the middle but I felt it was faster just because of the exhaust note!!!!
Cant wait for the new season.

all the best Chris

I listen with head phone on > cringing at the rpms held and held and held....
What are the red lines at Daytona? How did Doug record his speed?

Kenny your promise above is the core of my fascination with Cdo handling. Its a mystery to me how Doug's Isolastic takes corners as harsh or harsher than the Sealy frame. Doug has not revealed his builder's modifications yet. Did your mind wonder or did bike warn ya to back off wide? Thank goodness no on coming eh.

9700rpm=160mph.... Can somehone help digging up the crank from the road? the valve from my eye?
Thanks
Philippe

Well the spot will likely be marked by the road alligators of 19-18" tires coming apart.

:D
Jim used to work in the AMC race shop and also prepared Commandso for Gus Kuhn (I have an 850 head that Jim did) and he certainly knew his stuff!!

Don't talk about Jim in past tense!!! He is my Grandfather and still alive and well!!! He is celebrating his 95th Birthday in a couple of weeks.
I 'google searched' him and was thrilled to see his name mentioned here!!!! :)

I'm glad to hear it. I knew he had stopped doing work a few years ago. Give him my best wishes and hope for many more birthdays to come!

I see that Andover Norton has found a good pic of Dave Rawlins and John Baker.
And the factory tuned 850 Mk1 that set 12 sec and sub 12 sec 1/4 miles.
And, with a change of gearing, posted a 142 mph average timed run in 1973.

Front page coverage.
Nice one, Joe...

Chris, how did the dampers perform? Not heard from you in ages? JB

Hi John

Still have the Commando set up. Did not realise until I stripped the Seeley that they were Dommi stantions. Turned out the front end I replaced were Manx length. Forks are I think as good as my Manxton set up. Let me know if you can swap the Commando ones for a Triumph set up as I have a triple that I want to handle.

Ps did you sort out the composite springs?

all the best Chris

I was reading a recent Classic Motorcycle article by Graham Walker ( Murrays Dad) and it mentioned Gus Kuhn....in the 1925 TT. When I lived in London the Bike shop by the Tube Station in Stockwell was called Gus Kuhns.....before it changed names. Gus must have had a long career.

Stock Commando 750 On The Salt
Friday, 8/22/08: Big D Cycle Dallas: Randy Johnson went almost 125 mph (124.991) and qualified for the Salt Flats record on a stock 750. He will make his record run Saturday morning. The current record is 120.250 mph............
Saturday, 8/23/08: Randy Johnson came within 3 cubic centimeters of setting a new record. That's the amount the engine was over the 750cc's class limit found during post race inspection. The record run was fast enough for a new record but it was disqualified when tech inspectors determined the engine was 753cc instead of 750. They'll be back next year...........
In 2009, He went 123.9 with 750cc

Not bad if that is a stock stock bike.

Lets not forget that Bonneville is at ~6000 ft, so power falls off, quite a bit.
And that salt is not exactly a frictionless surface.

What would that do at sea level, with suitable gearing ??
