I cannot recall seeing a Commando speedo with a trip and it even has the green blob and 'Norton' logo, is this real?

Yes, the Veglia green globe speedo has a trip odometer.

Really? I have veglias on mine and they are spot on. Also had veglias on every bonneville T140 I owned back in the day made after about 1976 I think as Smiths stopped supplying Meriden. They seemed very accurate and drew similar praise in the press.
They're French made as opposed to the Italian sourced ones on early seventies Guzzis and Ducatis, which look different and could be wildly inaccurate.
They (the Norton variety) tended to be fitted to Interstates, as mine was. Ironically tripmeter very useful with the now-fitted roadster tank and limited fuel reserve!!

My Veglia works just fine after many miles . Mind you I put a drop of thick oil into the center bearing every couple of years or so. Upside down instrument and a drop into .

One hopes they last longer than the Smith's..not a very high bar.
