Things got off to a rocky start between CNW and myself. Matt has really gone out of his way to mend fences and I appreciate it. That being said, if Matt thinks he can win me over by sending me a free vented points cover.....he is 100% correct.

As soon as I opened the box I liked it. It looks exactly like the stock cover with the exception of the vents. Unless you are looking for the vents, you would never notice. The chrome finish is excellent and it even has the little drain hole in the bottom like the original.

The Trispark failure topic has gone beyond the dead horse point...it is now a decomposing carcass in the hot sun. I really like the Trispark and intend to keep on running it in my Commando. This cool points cover just makes it that much more attractive. Thanks Matt.

Now go find some rain and splash test it for us!

Russ

PS-Better take a file or some emery cloth to the screw slot next to the points cover, it glares now that you have that shiny piece of jewelry on there!

You need to purchase a new cam chain inspection cover (part of a stainless set) to make the CNW cover a proper mate...

Andy,

Thanks for the feedback, glad you like it. Let us, at the forum, know how it works for you as you get a chance to put some more miles on it.

Also, a minor correction. The cover is an aluminum cover that has been highly polished as opposed to chromed.

Matt,

Are these covers going to be offered as an item on your web site? I have a Tri-Spark ignition that I would be interested in keeping a bit cooler. If they are going to be offered, what is the price that you are contemplating?

Thanks

Look at the crappy inspection cap!!!!!!! Sub standard. I assure you the Commando75 team is at work as we speak locating a propper inspection cap.

When the Boyer was first introduced it was also one piece and under the points cover, they obviously had heat problems too as these pics of the early setup show. You fitted a spacer under the points cover which lifted it up and gave ventilation slots front and back

I have a waterproof jacket that has perforated liner that allows air through and not water because water can't pass through the small openings, but air can. Based on that wouldn't it be just as effective or more so to drill small holes around the circumference of the cover instead of large slots?

Tim,

Yes, even though they arent up on the site yet, they are available and the price is 49.95, show polished and ready to install.

As far as drilling holes instead of slots, I am sure you could net the same amount of air flow but you would have a lot of holes in there and I decided that the slits made for a cleaner look.

Thanks,

I agree about the cleaner look Matt. Just thought throwing the holes out there for those concerned about water. Small enough holes wouldn't obtrusive either.

Glad to grab a seat early for the coming carnival... I love this cover and I am positive it will help to cool the unit BUT what will happen of rain, moisture, creepers? Will it be cooked inside and end up in steam, grow as a fungus? Will it a better environment for the Trispark?
Years ago I crashed on my H2 and cracked the right engine case: 1 day running in rain and my CDI was cooked!

I was just about to type the same thing.

If water does get through the slots, engine heat will drive it out of there in short order. There is some risk presented by steam though but the Tri-Spark internals appear to be so well potted, I doubt that even steam vapor will penetrate. The thing could probably work in boiling water.

That said, why take a risk with moisture? So, in the absence of ANY evidence that there is a heat problem, I'll take my chances with the heat emanating from the inside of the timing chest and take whatever relief is offered by Greg Faust's cheap heat isolating gasket.

I use to have a big point cover, about 4 inches long, on my Commando with a Union Jack engraved on it...A little damaged in my accident but still polishable...I wonder if the extra volume would be enough to dissipate enough heat or if I should cut off the + (the cross) and glue an extra fine mesh behind??? Could look nice??

I think that this is a rather ingenious solution. Cudos to whoever thought it up!

That CNW once piece deal is nice though - just different enough..
It's cool to see what can be done today with all of the different machines available.
