Does any one know of a good way to clean the Bronze exhaust nuts? I have a set that are just about turned black with age. Short of taking them of & using a wire wheel & then polish I can't seem to get them looking good. What's the magic formla ?

Try the gentlest method first , such as a white vinegar soaking for a day or two and a firm toothbrush with baking soda to scrub clean ,engage happy children to the cleaning task and take then for a bikeride as reward. Enjoy.

Hi,
Personally I'd treat them to a session in the glass bead blast cabinet, works great if you don't mind the matte finish.

Old sailor trick with bronze hardware...soak it in lime Koolaid...no kidding (leave out the sugar). Of course protecting it after you take it out is another story. I wipe the bronze on the boat down regularly with diesel. It helps it turn brown instead of green. I have never been one to try to keep it polished, I have better things to do with my time on board, like drink beer.

Have them chromed.. except for the threads. Best of both worlds.

Sounds like a good idea to me. What happens if you chrome the threads? Does it destroy things or just not stay seated?

Spray paint - hi-temp flat silver.

You don't even have to remove those nuts; do it in place.

Spray some of that silver paint into the can's cap; a cheap kids' water color paint brush will flow that thin spray paint onto those nuts nicely.

Five minutes, tops.

Works good on all of the rest of that cadmium plated hardware that's beginning to rust too. While it's not concourse it's a good maintenance practice. The paint is so thin that it is almost as if plated; no brush marks.

I did the high temp silver paint on ends of the steel studs that weren't plated and it doesn't look bad. Worth a try, all you need to do to get that silver paint off is carb cleaner and it rolls off like water if you don't like it, but you might like it.
