Choppers, bobbers and other observations

I watched a couple of guys doing it to a big Harley on TV for a competition, yesterday. I don't play cricket but chopping a Harley might be better.
Al those show are just that, shows where they get a high price Harley and spend heaps more money on the mods and up to $85k spent all up, my mate Paul built his bobber from bits he had laying around from his days of growing up with old British bikes and for a slap together Triumph bobber it looks pretty good, a rattle can paint job and not much money spent on it but time and a love of doing it for himself and no one else.
I hate them shows where they compete with each MC custom shops and then selling them off to some fool who thinks they are great who have no real idea, just because a custom bike might look good (in some eyes) don't mean they are any good to ride and to pay a lot of your hard earned money to find out that they ride like a piece of sh.t, and most who do buy them have way to much money to burn and no real experience with real bikes or building them.
Nothing better than building your own bike with your own hands with what you have and spend the money where its needed to improve it to be even better and learn by your mistakes and fix those mistakes to be better.

In that show, the guys fitted a 21 inch front wheel to the Harley and raked the frame to suit. If you do something like that, you only have to be a fraction wrong and the next crash can come from nowhere.
When I was a kid, I built several bikes from bits, but I never chopped a bike. My Seeley 850 was made from a rolling chassis and a motor and gearbox I bought. All I made were the engine plates and a few brackets. But I knew where everything was meant to be. I still had a problem with the steering geometry, but I fixed that after it almost got me.
I built a Tribsa from an A10 frame and a preunit 650 Triumph motor and gearbox. It handled better than my Seeley - 1963 Triumph fork yokes.

You forgot to say ' they used a gas torch ' , and couldnt weld , so they covered it all in BOG , so it looked cool .

Intresting , Ive seen it said , first hand , Dennis Hoppers chopper was a pig to ride .

When I watch those guys on TV, they seem to do a lot of things I would never do. I still feel pain. When a bike mishandles, a problem can come from nowhere and deck you when you least expect it. Most production bikes are set up so they never grab you by the throat.

Chops can look amazing remember seein a chopped vincent in the IOW at a Dylan festival. It was painted Aubergine and had Copper straight through Pipes. Way ahead of any known UK curve ,bet he was not a member of the VOC...

In 1971 I was walking near a pub called the Boat House in Brentford West london. A pub with a reputation for thinking blokes with long hair should be cancelled. And sure enough half a dozen came out and began shouting abuse across the road, one of those do you run or do you run and break the sound barrier moments... and worsethey were now halfway across the road just as a guy turned up from no where on a chop. Say whatyou like aboutchopperhandling but for playing skittles with troublesome dickheads no equal. He scored a fullstrike leaving them moaning and gruaning in the road. He never stopped , never saw himagain . hope he had a good life
cos thanks in part to himI have

But it's....

"Yeah darlin', gonna make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
and explode into space"

A bit less worrying ?

Dunno about y’all, but when folk suggest wrong / funny lyrics to songs, that’s it for me, that’s all I can ever hear whenever the song is played !!

You mean like Hendrix "excuse me while I kiss this guy" ?
Or Elton's "I'm still sanding" or his "pocket man" etc etc?

Wasn't the biggest No Lemons fan (by his own admission, Kenny Everett was an impossible act to follow), but one of his radio show's better features was the 'misheard lyrics' spot :)
