When checking the output at the battery, should the reading come up immediately? My 3-phase system shows the proper charge rate but it comes up slowly. Is this correct? Also, can the stator wear out slowly or is it a work or not work?
Thanks,Mike

Depends upon the battery state when the charging starts, if the bike has been standing then the battery will have lost charge and will take time for the V to recover. The stator is a work or not work with a good rotor but a 3 phase could lose a coil and then just be a small single phase, the magnets in the rotor will slowly degrade and reduce the stator output.

Kommando,
Is there a way to check to see if the stator has lost a coil.Static charge on the battery is around 13.6-14.2
I have a new stator in my stash along with a good rotor. My multi-meter shows it going up to 14.5 as I keep the rpm’s around 2500-3000 in about 1 minute. Is this normal or should I install the new stator?
Thanks,Mike
I ran this with the headlight on

Disconnect the 3 alternator wires, then test the resistance between each possible pair of wires, they should match. Then the resistance individually between each of the 3 wires and earth ie the primary case, there should be an extremely high resistance but preferably infinite resistance.

Sounds more like a battery issue than a alternator problem, you say you have the proper charge rate. If the voltage is not coming up then the battery could be on its way out. Do a battery load test,

Check the AC voltage on the three yellow wires with the regulator rectifier unplugged, 2,000 rpm
