Chains

Hello , Statndard configuration is 18T front and 50T rear (525 size sealed chain) . The front sprocket is the part you will have to find first is OEM Norton . Nothing else will fit . You are from England so check Stu Bodycote first , then Ollie Thiel and then the Norton dealers. You didn't say what year your bike was. There was a spline change sometime in 2013 but the LATE spline fits the early bikes. The rear Stu or Ollie will have . Good Luck !
Hi, apologies, my 961 is a 2015, Mk1.

I have sourced both sprockets from Stu.

I understood from Ollie that with an even toothed front, the rear should be odd and most go for 49 teeth. And that avoids the uneven wear.

Thanks for your reply.

Cheers

50 years repairing machinery.
There is NO TRACE of lube adjacent the sprocket. Even the most thorough cleaner doesn't get it all.
Thank you. I did clean and wipe it down before I took the photo. The chain was last lubed about 600 miles ago, before I rode it back to the UK from Belgium. I did not lube it again after that as I was planning to replace the sprocket anyway.

Again, thank you for your comments, I really do appreciate the advice - that’s why I asked the questions.

Hello , Make sure your rear wheel is aligned so the sprockets are running in a straight line . I have managed to get 16,000 miles out of my last chain (Regina) and that needed replacement probably at 15,000. If you ride in a lot of rain this can wear them out sooner. I would spray the chain every 200 miles or sooner if raining . A member on the forum said he was going to try a Scotoiler , but we havent heard from him since.

Always found the chain situation an oddity on my 961 - different to outcomes on other bikes. The 961, oddly different?! Who’d’ve thunk!

Just shy of 9k miles. No discernible wear or stretch (not a huge surprise). As such, has never needed adjustment beyond that applied by the dealer when changing tyres - “careful with those carbon wheels mate:oops:!”

With less than 80 (cart) horses pushing it along I suppose the chain is not exactly under heavy loads, despite my often heavy wrist. I ‘short shift’ quite a bit too - as we know, there’s not much going on up there in the rev range beyond the increasing sound of a mechanical paint tin mixer!

The chain gets a very light film of spray wax immediately after each ride, while it’s still warm - to aid penetration🫣. Think there’s a good chance the chain may outlast me! My lubricant of choice.
