Does anybody know why a new final drive chain from Andover Norton, it says in the instructions that only use the supplied clip type master link as temporary use until you get a rivet type master link. What are they worried about.

Are you talking about a 520 chain? I don't think there's room for a clip on a 530.
If so, I have been using the clip type on my 520 for close to 20,000 miles - no problem as long as you face the clip in the correct direction.

As for AN, it's probably just new wave risk aversion bullshit! ("Can't sue us - we told you not to use it!")
Cheers

I'm using a Iwis 530 chain with a master link - no problems.

All Nortons came from the factory with a 530 chain and master link with clip. The problem is that some 530 chains are wider than others and will catch the clip. No. 50 industrial chain also has thick side plates causing the same problem.

Not all Nortons. It's 10B-1 not 530 and the current Elite '530' chain AN sells is 10B-1.
Links should be the same make as the chain so if AN specifies a rivet link then they should supply it with the chain, I assume they don't.
