This isn't about whether carbs or EFI are better than the other, I simply want to know whether anyone has fitted carbs to a 961. Its just something I'm toying with if I go ahead with a planned project.

I have asked the same question on other threads with no answers forthcoming.
I would go further - has anyone fitted carbs and removed the engine management computer and replaced it with plain Electronic Ignition?

Yes that would be my plan for sure, I want it to be oldskool, simple.

As I mentioned last time this was asked, I bought a set of FCRs from Kent Dreer. But I sold the bike. So I sold the FCRs to Ollie Thiel. I would therefore suggest he’s the man to ask…

...but it's immensely do-able. The bike's horsepower is low enough for carbs to work.
You couldn't put carbs on those modern 220+hp bikes though - variability in fuel flow requirements would exceed the capabilities of any carbs I know of.

Past discussions:

I would not have thought EFI would be better than carbs in anything other than mixture control. It depends on the mapping of the computer. If the same map is used on every engine for a particular model, it might not allow for differences between engines and exhaust systems. I have seen it written somewhere, that the perfect advance curve cannot be calculated. However some people probably cannot derive the equation which relates crank degrees to distance of the piston from top dead centre. Most high level computer languages work in radians rather than degrees. I think the number is 57.296 .
