Has anyone familiar with the carbtune pro stainless rod type gauge, ever had a need to lube them? When I used them today the l/h rod seems to be sticking slightly now and then, would a load of penetrating oil down the vac pipe do any harm?
Paul.

never heard of that type. probably would hurt to clean it but you may need to have it dry inside for it to work correctly. I presume it works by vacuum drawing the indicator up a clear glass tube. That's what my one was like. If you want to check its accuracy, then use a piece of tubing and listen to both carbs one at a time. The suction noise should be the same if they are balanced. Personally I used the tube more often because it was quicker and more convenient.

Not the 'pro' but I have dismantled and cleaned my standard Morgan Carbtune but I think only once in over 20 years.

I wouldn't recommend using any oil as it is likely to make matters worse.

I don't know if you have been using the gauge inverted when checking Amals (or Bings) but you often get much better readings with those carbs if the gauge is hung upside-down as mentioned in the instructions.

i wouldn't put any type of cleaner in them - I've used this model (as do many of the folks over on the laverda forum for their triples) and the most accurate way to use them is to invert the thing so the metal bars face downwards (as LAB mentioned too) - particularly because this reduces some slight sticking and more importantly allows more accurate tuning

i didn't believe it when this was mentioned on the forum but tried it and sure enough i find it much better for balancing the carbs accurately
