Can I soak carbs in Muatic Acid

After a shop cleaned my carbs in an Ultrasonic Hi temperature cleaner I found the pilot circuit still plugged on one carb. The guy in the shop suggested a 50/50 solution of Muratic Acid and water. A slow process of dribbeling this off the end of a choke cleaner tube every time the hole opened up and quit bubbling. I finally tried squirting brake cleaner thru it again after about three hours and it was no longer plugged. If this disolves crud in carbs, why not soak them in it? You would use about a dollars worth of acid, ALTHOUGH very dangerous stuff to work with! Also will rust everyhing in the room if you use enough to clean oout a tank, as the shop owner showed me the rust on his drill press, etc! Another question I have, is why some carbs have a jet in the threaded hole, mine have the port buried inside?

When I worked in the concrete buisness we used muriatic acid in a ratio of approx one pint to five gallons of water to clean the mixer trucks. At this ratio an aluminum beer can would dissolve in it after a few hours. Not sure what this would do to zinc(?) carb bodies, but I'd be afraid to find out.

I've used it many times to DISSOLVE aluminum smeared on cylinder bores from piston seizures.

Why use acid when you can use Berryman's Chem-Dip in the one gallon can, complete with dipping basket, that is MADE FOR THE JOB and works extremely well?

I wouldn't use it on a carb. I used it to clear rust from a gas tank before, it worked awesome. It did however burn right through the petcock and let itself out on its own!!

From memory muriatic acid is spirits of salts - hydrochloric acid. And it loves zinc. You'd do better to invest in a small ultrasonic cleaning bath, and use a freon type solvent or a water solution of non-ionic detergent. If anyone wants to clean rust from tanks, phosphoric acid is better and safer to use, and if you go to your metal finishing shop, they might even have some inhibited phosphoric acid which won't go right through in a few minutes. You should be careful adding water, the acid attack on metals might accelerate , when you would expect it to be slower.

HCl acid may likely stain the zinc metal but a short wash would work
ok but safter to boil in vinegar or the store brough cleaners that may or may not eat up zinc oxide crust in passages.

HCl and Zinc. Great way to digest an AMAL and generate a bunch of hydrogen.

Evinrude out board motor carb cleaner is the best stuff I have used to clean out carb's no matter how dirty they are. Even green shyte set like rock will melt off the metal quickly. I think it is designed to clear out the fog spray they put into out board motors for winter storage. Using the little plastic tube in the nozzle will pump the stuff through all the venturi's and render them clear. It's very flammable so no smoking anything while using it.
Muriatic acid will dissolve calcium which is why it is used in the marine service industry to remove barnacle's from hull's. It is used in the building industry to clean up cement. Before you paint a cement floor wash it down with Muriatic acid first. It will etch the cement and enable the paint to grab on very well.
It will dissolve your teeth and finger nails too so don't drink it and ware gloves. Will also dissolve your clothing and can help clean your bar-b=q grill.

Perhaps I got lucky looking at Keiths photo! My pilot orfice is shiney clean at any rate! Vinegar is an interesting option. Mix it with some salt to disolve corrosion off brass. Electrical connectors that are not just plated where the plating has been corroded away will come out as new after soaking in it. I have an ongoing issue with a 9.9 four stroke outboard, will pick up some Evinruide cleaner.
