Hi, can anybody tell me how many notches there should be on the gearbox camplate? The reason I ask is because I have a spare one with 9(I think) notches & am wondering if it is for a reverse shift(which is what I want).

Thanks in return,Paul.

Hi Hayabusa,
It has been posted previously somewhere in this forum that you can take your stock cam plate, press the shaft out, flip the plate over and press the shaft back in, and it becomes a reverse shifting cam plate. I have not done it nor know anyone that has, but, next time I have the box disassembled I'll consider it.

I have heard this too, but I've also heard that it is a urban myth. Dunno.

It is not an urban myth, I have done it years ago, but is is not a simple flip, you have to press the shaft out, flip it to the other side and grind new "notches". The easiest way is to put two plates together and grind the one that will be flipped. I did that when I flipped the lever over towards the rear, this way I retained the same shifting pattern (one up and down for the rest).

I somewhere read on this forum how to make an reverse camplate.I made mine by grinding the notches in a standard one only to find afterwards that you can swap the plate over Here s how I did it
Press the spidle off
Turn the camplate 180°(like a pancake)
turn it 180°(12 o clock becomes 6 o clock)
press the spidle back on
Or buy one from Mick Hemmingslynxnsu
