Caliper Seal Shape?

I am rebuilding my front caliper and noticed that both seals I removed had a non-rectangular cross section. That is, there is sort of a "draft" shape like you would have in a molded part. Hard to measure rubber, but it is about .010" difference in cross sectional thickness from one side to the other. My new seals have 90degree cross sections. Has anyone noticed this, is it a problem, or should I just stick the new ones in? Thanks,
Jaydee

Sounds to me that the old one were just worn and got out of shape from years of use. You may have noticed the seal groove in the caliper is not cut square. This is so when a square section seal is installed, one edge, the sealing edge, will sit proud and effectivly seal against the piston.

That's it Biscuit. The groove is not square and the old seals took its shape. Pretty clever idea for corner sealing. I never would have noticed.
Thanks,
Jaydee
