Guys,
Wondering if you can help me with my Boyer Ignition wiring for my 71’ 750. I’ve gone through the instructions and have a few questions, I’ve copied the instructions from Old Britts where I got a bit confused (http://www.oldbritts.com/boyer_install.html):
12) Remove the white-blue wire from the ballast resistor between the two ignition coils. The color of this ignition power feed wire may be different on some machines, if so check using a test light or meter to find the live (-12 volts) when the ignition is switched on. The ballast resistor is no longer required and can be removed.
-I don’t think I have a Ballistic Resistor, does this seem right? Looking at the Workshop Manual it looks like I should for a 1971. If I correctly don’t and possibly have an earlier wiring harness, what is my ignition power feed wire? From what I see I only have the four white wires coming from the ignition that originally went to the coils.
13) Remove the red wire from its earthing point on the end of the condenser pack. Reconnect this to the + marked terminal on the left-hand ignition coil. The condenser pack is no longer required and can be removed.
-Probably a dumb question but are the condenser packs the two small red units that sit under the coils? Am I reading that these are no longer needed?
16) Connect the red wire from the transistor box as follows: first connector to the earth tag on the end of the condenser pack, second connector to the + terminal of the left-hand ignition coil with the red wire already connected to it.
-This one is confusing me a bit, is this just saying take the two red condenser connections and add the red from the transistor box and screw it into the + terminal of the left coil?
19) Connect the white-blue wire (the one removed From the ballast resistor) to the white wire from the transistor box.
-Back to step 12, which wire would be my power feed, I’m only seeing the four whites coming from the ignition that come to the coils?
Any help or clarification you can give would be extremely appreciated!
Thanks
Paul
