Some of you might remember this little disaster. https://www.accessnorton.com/NortonCommando/catastrophic-belt-failure.32773/

I have been staying in contact with Steve Maney now that he's retired. He spends his winters away from the UK and the little pandemic thing made things messy. But he's home I reached out and he had a front pulley for me. I transferred the funds and a package arrived last week. I need to rearrange the garage (move bikes around) and get the Interstate up on the lift and tear into it and get the belt drive back on. This time with the double adjusters.

I had started the bike up last weekend and it sounded like the primary chain needed adjusted. I didn't feel like messing with it knowing the belt drive was going back on.

We'll see how things go. I would have gotten to this sooner but I've been working on other projects.

It's about time you got back to important stuff :) Haven't seen you lurking around here much lately!

Make sure you get it adjusted right.
Start out with the belt too tight and snug down the mounting bolts, just tight enough that the adjuster can still slip the trans.
Then use the adjuster to push the trans forward until there is enough play in the belt. Then tighten the mount bolts.

If you adjust the belt by pushing the trans back with the adjusters then you will find the final drive chain will pull the trans back a few thou more on the first hard ride. Then the belt will be too tight and failure will happen soon. Jim
