Battery Bar help...

British Only is out and from the looks of the battery retaining bar on the 12 volt battery, it looks like a piece of angle iron with notchs for the straps.

Can some one post a pic of theirs and dimensions for the notchs, length and other important dimensions...

Spidey, I am missing my battery bar also, so if somebody can assist I will also use the info to make one.
 
Shouldn't be a problem getting that part as they are still available?
 
Hi guys,I use 2 "S" hooks of suitable size, from the local hardware store, two rubber drive belts, ala- Hoover,loop them together, put "S" hook at each end,put the free end of the "S" hook through the holes in the battery compartment and off you go!, this method has worked well, holds the battery firmly. Ride safely. James.
 
I've got a spare in the garage - I'll dig it out and post the dimensions when I get back this evening.......

If it was my ride I would have done that, but I am restoring it for the owner of the tool an die shop I work at.

I can make one that looks just like it and send it off to be powder coated on his dime LOL...

Sure enough, the digi camera is nowhere to be found. I'll see if I can get you a pic tomorrow. In the meantime, here are the dimensions in Good Old Imperial:
Get yourself a piece of mild steel 7.5" long, and 1" wide, and create a right angle bend along its length in the middle. It's approx 1/16" thick steel. It has a self adhesive rubber pad along most if its length on the inside of the bend to help grip the battery case.
There's three notches on mine (purchased as part of it's rebuild in 2004 from British Spares in Silverstream). There's one 7/8" from one end, and two 1.5" and 1/4" from the other.

Another trick I like is to eliminate the rubber bands that always deteriorate, especially if you use a non-sealed battery. I take a couple old wheel spokes with 90 degree bends and cut them to the proper length. I have a spoke thread roller so I roll new threads and drill out the slot in the bar. You can hook the hub end of the spoke in the hole in the battery box, slide the hold down bar over the spoke, and spin the spoke nipple down to hold it securely.

A trip thru the bead blaster and a dip in the zinc plater and it looks pretty trick.
