Country flag
Unearthed from a farm in Derbyshire, and last used in 1979.
A '72 interstate with a later 850 motor fitted. I'm guessing it was originally a Combat which did the 'Combat' thing early in its life.

Always wanted some original Dunstall rear-sets, too ;)

I don't think I'll stick with the original downpipes, but the silencers would look great on something with a featherbed frame.

The 'patina' (rust) on the front forks may be an obstacle to keeping the oil seals alive... ?

I suspect that bigger issues lurk inside the non-rotatable engine!

Seriously, Current thinking is candy apple red, mainly because I have some already in stock.
And it looks nice ;)

Here's the last one I did:

If the tank is salvagable as is DON'T TOUCH IT! Wash it, wax it but Please don't repaint it. It's too kool. My '54 Chevy is still mostly factory laquer .... People like it as is. Make the ol gal run and safe and who cares 'bout the rest.

Ok, I'll ask. What did you pay for it?

Captain Scarlet with the Paint Job , " She's Only Original ONCE . ' plus the Wine Colour looks better than that yuckkey RED . :P

A piair of ' SS ' pipes and differant ( coustom ? 0 sidecovers , and she'll look like something . HISTOREY shouldnd be eraddicated .,
but youre welcome to strip , clean & service the rest . ( or send it to me , thatll save a worrie or two  )(( permanantly )) . :D

SO , we might even let you polish it , BUT SAVE THE PAINT . Some inhibitor INSIDE the gas tank , for now . OBVIOUSLY . :|

I've always figured it's good to find a complete bike as opposed to a half bike and then searching out the rest of the parts but man, this puppy is showing it's age. It's a good thing aluminum doesn't rust. It must have been a leaky barn. Given the value of a steel interstate tank and side covers you likely still got a deal though I hope.

In my case after seeing what a good one looks like intact, I'd be more pleased to find half a Commando with all the wearing and rusting and easy busted stuff stolen off long ago, so a bargain can be worked out better and a labor saver too. I'd do a deal with the rider that likes the scared finish tank. Pretty soon there may be so many Commando's we stop waving at each other
: )

Definitely a future "Most Improved' contender...
For 2014 maybe. Holy crap, that's a lot of shmaholies ($$$$). A deep pocket project to be sure.
I think you only need 2 things, Time and Money. The more you have of one, the less you will need of the other.
I will not deny a feeling of jealousy.
