Hello all,

Been taking a hiatus for a little while but poked by nose in a few times to check on you guys. The last few months have been hectic with the holidays, Command Inspection and general life. I traded in my truck for a Nissan Juke (also known as a Joke) LOL. Miss the utility of a truck but loving the little car, wanted a Mini but did not want the hassle of having to go 100 miles one way for service and such. Have not rode the Norton for a while and considering doing a tear down on the tranny and thinking if I go that far why not just refresh most all of the bike. Last long trip I did (70 miles) had oil on the timing cover and not really sure where it came from. The tranny oil turned gold so I figure the bushings have had it and need to go ahead and rebuild the thing. The front forks I am sure could use a freshening up along with the iso's. Found the brake fluid has completely drained out of my original front disc so I will have to investigate that and see about upgrading.

All in all, if I do a few things it will end up doing everything in the long run so why not. From what I have read on here from the few restorations the bikes (done correctly) were much more dependable than original and that is what I want. Will probably have to take the head barrels to Memphis to get them done along with any other machining since we do not really have a British shop anywhere in Tupelo. Any advice would be appreciated! I have read over Old Britts site many times and other online builds. If I do this I just want to make sure I do it right and use the best parts within my budget to do it. Will be selling my 87 convertible GT to fund this since I do not have any want to deal with it any more. Just want a bike I can get on when it is nice outside and ride without too much worry (I know bring on the "Buy another bike" rhetoric, LOL).

Thanks in advance!!

Get lots of clear boxes, and labels to drop in then start from top down removing everything and clean up to decide to keep or toss, then read Co. Norton Works site ads on what they do for theirs to get the most current crop and scope of upgrades in one place. From that base can strike out in many directions as long as your heart and wallet can take it. Keep in mind to inspect cases and shafts for cracks, wear and bends. Read this forums initial tech section post and get the manual and references and parts book. A crooked 1/4" W end wrench is very handy special tool beside the pullers. Oh yeah and a good torch and fire extinguisher.

Steve, I also think you forgot to mention the thick steel box with a very secure lid for the patience that is required and a calculator to add up the amount of times you took the oil tank out, or the back wheel, (or the horn) and the boxes of beer (or whatever your tastes are) to keep the above thick steel as full as possible (or empty)
Lots of passion as well, that comes free and without any attachments!!!
Regards Mike

Its ALL perfectly Logical .

As you go , whip down to your car wash with the HOT pressure Washer wand thing .THIS WAY its all DEGREASED and
" a pleasure to work on ".

NOW; a bannana box for the differant assemblies , ( box , cradle , carbs et al .)and get Mk IIs and a BSA 30 Deg. adv. Unit .

:D  8)

And a NOTE BOOK . & pencil . The Manuel for Ea assy. in Ea Carton , too .

You cant go wrong . ! :P :|

p.s. : sending machineists crappy dirty pieces , they think youre c..... & d.... and wont take due care & dilligance .
Get em all as prestine , or at least CLEAN before you inflict them on someones sufferance . Galvaniseing looks
phycodelic on the cradle & front mount . You can always paint Over It .

Thanks guys, I expect to take some time and do it right the first round!! Got me a sandblasting cabinet and been experimenting with glass beads, have had a blast (maybe pun was intended) and got some good results. Not sure if I am going to powder coat the frame, think I will just go with paint. Want to respoke the wheels and blast the hubs and shine them up.

Probably going to pull the battery tray today and see about cleaning and blasting that if I have time. Going to have to either buy or rent some specialty tools when I get down to the tranny. Maybe a month or so I can have a basket case in the works. Would like to have ready next spring so I can take my time and vett it out and get some real riding done!!

Will try my best to get pics and post progress as I go. Bad about getting into something and not stopping!!

Thanks!
