Supposed to make kickstarting easier but no info.
anyone know anything about the Sunset Motors compression release?

Looks like chainsaw parts, push a button down to open it, pops back up after the engine fires. Got one in My Stihl, makes the starter rope last quite a bit longer.

I've seen CRs on big inch Harleys. I'd more inclined to go with the Sunset option as they have a "track" record of doing this.

I've use compression releases on BSA B50s (500c single). They hold the exhaust rocker from returning all the way and the point is to get the engine just past TDC on the compression stroke, turn off the compression release and kick so the engine is spinning quickly enough to suck, then compress and fire.

If this just lets the combustion chamber leak it may be OK, but if it messes with the valves - bad idea.

I made a suggestion earlier in this thread, but I am no fan of drilling a Norton head, it just adds a yet another potential failure point which will be breath taking to fix.
I am at the point, physically, where kick starting may be difficult; I went for the CNW electric leg. If it decides to take a break I'll find out if I still have a kick or two in me.

I was one of the early cNw electric start kits. It has never failed to start for me immediately. Just for grins I tried kickstarting
the bike again recently (warm) and was able to achieve satisfaction. However, I am too feeble to want to do this too often.
I could easily hurt myself.

Sunset Motors is the home of T.C. Christianson of Hogslayer fame, I assume he knows a bit about Nortons, that's why I'm not dismissing it immediately.

I have seen these type of decompressors fitted to double engined Norton’s and triumphs ,road legal versions on YouTube. Making kick starting these amazing creations possible or at least easier!
I have a Husqvarna saw with one fitted, easy starter. They are available as a spare part for less than £10, I would like to fit some to my other saws. Unlikely now I’ve retired and access to the work tool room has gone.
A visit to Sunset Motors is certainly on my bucket list, an inspirational story, to see where it happened even though the Hogslayer is here in the UK.
