Please correct me if I'm wrong. For best results when illuminating a red lens taillight, use Red LEDs. Full spectrum LEDs may appear brighter on their own, but all but the red component will be filtered out by the lens. From personal experience.
I also believe this is correct. The bulbsthatlastforever board has 20 red and 4 white.

Hi Buckfizz,
I'm puzzled by this statement. Which type taillight do you have, the bullet type or later rectangular type?

Thanks,
Ed

I have the later rectangular type (L917).

Batrider pointed out that the Bulbsthatlastforever unit has 4 LEDs for illuminating the registration plate.
I tried my rear light in darkness, and there wasn't much ambient light for the plate.
Normally, I don't ride at night, but never say never.
Therefore, I have ordered one of these to graft into the tail lamp for illuminating the registration plate.
I think most have benefited from this thread, me included.

Good idea,
I've ordered 5m of led strip to rig up something, cuts off in 3 bulb sections so should be able to work something out.
